Bangkok Nightlife Lessons - When Clubbing Crosses Your Threshold

Hey late night adventure friends!

The other day, I suddenly remembered an old Bangkok-based contact reaching out ages ago. After some social media stalking then flurry of DMs, we managed to align schedules to meet up. My friend Jen and her buddy Justin invited me out for wine before hitting a popular club.

As we nursed a bottle of red at the "Wine Connecction", two more friends of the pair swung by - instant friend group formed! Wine flowed while we traded travel tales and I got the lowdown on the Bangkok nightlife I’d yet to tap into. Around 11 pm, we wandered towards Eden, a massive nightclub touting lasers, and a booming Soundsystem.

I hesitated slightly as the hypebeast bouncer patted me down...then followed the crew inside. Immediately assaulted by hypnotic house beats, disorienting strobes, and crushing crowds. It occurred to me in that moment how much I dislike lound flashy clubs - but here I was! As we grabbed hilariously overpriced drinks, I lasted maybe 15 minutes enjoying the spectacle before thoughts echoed: Why am I here right now? Do I need to override personal preferences in the name of new experience?

Politely finding Jen again, I shouted my goodbyes and intention to leave over the music. Returning her kind offer to stay, I set off to grab some earplugs for sensory relief...to no avail. So I texted my early exit, feeling zero regrets about calling it a night to rescue ringing eardrums.

While ultimately not for me, I'm still glad I gave in to that invitation. It challenged comfort zones and let me witness Bangkok nightlife at its wildest. Now I know loud clubs push my limits...and that's 100% okay. Next time, I just got to bring earplugs to rock the night with... Gotta try new things sometimes even if just to confirm what makes you happiest! Cheers to self-knowledge!
