Treating our wounds can be a timely medical attention we can give to ourselves when we get an injury. It's a first aid to prevent excess loss of blood, infection, and other terminal health complications. Treating our wounds is not to be taken as self medication.
We should always see a doctor in case of any accident that involves serious injuries and blood loss. We can only have self treatment as first aid to arrest the situation from getting worst before visiting the health clinic.
What's the first step to prevent infection when treating a wound? |

The first thing to do when there's an injury is to take first aid by using methylated Spirit or hydrogen peroxide with cotton wool to clean blood from the affected area. Appy iodine crystal to stop excess blood oozing out, use of paracetamol tablet for pain relief and use of clean cloth to tie the affected area or use a cotton Wool and a plaster to prevent blood flow. Secondly, if there's a local health facilities we can go to get tetanus injection to prevent wound from becoming malignant.

It lowers the risk of infection. A moist environment prevent the wound from drying out which in turn blocks pathogens causing infections . Additionally, dressing the wounds using moisture solutions containing antimicrobial properties which further reduces the risk of infection effects.

Warm reddish skin around the wound, yellow and green-like discharge from the wound, offensive odour, fever and chills, aches or pains, in some cases swelling around the wound area. In some cases there could also be a situation of nausea and vomiting.
How can you tell if a wound can be treated at home or if it needs medical attention? |

Wounds with minor cut and without excess blood loss or serious injuries can be treated at home using first aid proceedures mentioned above. Injuries arising from road accident, bottle and metal cut, stabbing or wounds incurred from industrial machineries and equipments should immediately be taken to the hospital for proper medical attention.
