It's another day of the week and I'm delighted to participate in this contest today organized by @sahmie which talks about Food is Medicine. I will be making my entry below so read through it and drop your valuable comment as it will be appreciated.

Do you believe that the foods we eat have medicinal value?

Yes, I believe strongly that the food we eat have medicinal values. I say this because when we eat well, we hardly fall sick and even when you are sick, you will be adviced to eat well before taking your drugs as drugs are not effective in an empty stomach.

Since the food we eat often helps us to stay healthy and strong, it then means that this food also serve as medicine. This is the main reason why most times you will be place on diet to eat the types of food that is good for your body.

There are some sickness that you will be told to avoid certain type of food and once you do that the sickness will disappear completely. So if food wasn't medicine then such recommendation won't be given but since it is a a medicine or it has medicinal values that is why it is recommended.

Give 5 examples of foods that you consider to be powerful "medicines" for the body, and what they do.

The foods that I believe are powerful medicines to the body include fruits, vegetables, protein foods like egg, beans etc, energy food like maize, yam, rice etc, iron food like plantain. These are the major once I can recommend as medicine food.

Fruit's are medicinal because they help to keep your body fresh so anytime you take fruits you will notice that your body is fresh and healthier and you will always feel refreshed at all times.

Vegetables on the other hand are medicinal because they gives more blood to the body. When you have suitable amount of blood on your body you can even act as a donor of blood because you have a good amount of blood and you can get this by always taking fruits.

Protein foods like beans and egg also keeps your body fit and stong enough to fight against any form of illness so that is why protein foods are important. For energy and iron foods, you need them to be strong and to boost your immune system so that it can fight against any disease that may come your way.

How can we use food in our daily lives to keep healthy?

We can use foods in our daily lives to keep healthy if we taken the required food at the required time. Taking the six classes of food will help us to be fit and it will also boost our immune system so that any sickness that comes can be battled by it thoroughly.

Also when you are feeling sick you need to eat well to have the energy and also when you eat well that is when the medicine will work more. Without food taking medicine can cause even more harm on you so that is why taking the food is necessary.

Do you think it's important for schools to teach about how food can be like medicine for our bodies? Why?

Yes, I think it is very important for schools to teach how food are medicine to our bodies. If students know how foods are medicine to our body then the rate of sickness may reduce drastically because they will learn and then spray the news to their families and that way they can control sickness from their end.

People will instead invest more in food instead of using the money to buy medicine which was suppose to have being prevented using good food or the six classes of food.

Food is essential for our health, it contains variety of medication in it. Eggs, as mentioned, contains proteins and fats; proteins better for muscles and fats are greater in energy release. Educating students about food medication is good for their future to avoid money on medicines and to maintain their immunity.
