Contest| "Tools to Spark Culinary Inspiration #2"

What? I stood in bewilderment as I considered the state of the kitchen. My favourite place. For like 30 seconds, I felt disorientated not knowing where to start. Let rewind a little on how I got here.

	Who did this to our kitchen?

	The sink was not left out

I was startled by that familiar gnawing below my belt. Ughhhh hunger calls. I knew it would be calling soonest but really not so soon. These days seem like am on automated fast. I can’t remember the last time I ate breakfast but it seem my stomach wasn’t in the mood for my shenanigans.

The gnawing continued and I had to drag myself out of bed, took some of the things I would need to prepare an amazing breakfast for my stomach and took gentle but great strides towards the kitchen.

I stay in the hostel and the kitchen is not in the room. From my room position, I literally had to travel to get to the kitchen. Hehehe. So I continued with my great strides towards the kitchen enthusiastically.

On entering the kitchen, I came to a pause. I couldn’t believe my eyes. The entire kitchen was messed up and turned upside down.

Everywhere was littered with dirts, the trash can has been moved from its place and the remains of the dirts on the floor spoke of its absence. The entire long slab was filled with cooking items of different shapes and sizes.

The sink was filled with dirty plates and the kitchen was an eye saw. I stood for a while at a loss on where to place my legs talk less of where To place the items I had on my hands.

One of the hostel mates saw the lost look on my face and cleared up a part of the slab for me to keep my stuffs after asking what I wanted to make and I said pancakes.

Our kitchen is usually cleaned by the hostel staff and it’s a big kitchen. This morning I saw them hanging out at the common room waiting to do their job. One of the hostel mates who is into catering business had some orders to deliver and hence turned the kitchen upside down during her cooking gig.

I have been around and watched these ladies do their cleaning and I must say they have been awesome.

They start with dusting the kitchen from the shelves to the sink of any left overs and then they start sweeping. Some ladies would leave their dirty pots over night on the sink or even for days. They would gather all the dirty pots and keep them at the balcony to avoid investing the kitchen with flies and other flying creatures.

They would proceed to start cleaning the shelves and slabs. They also wash the sink and after sweeping the floor, they proceed to mop the floors while shifting and arranging the numerous gas cookers on the floor.

	Clean and sparkling

They do this every morning before mid day. It was the confidence that the kitchen was clean that I used to stride my way towards the kitchen and met it in a bizzare state.

I left and came back later in the day and the ladies had some justice to our kitchen and it was sparkling again.

When I cook in the kitchen, I ensure I do my best to keep it clean by washing the sink after cooking. I ensure I put the trash into the trash can. I clean the kitchen slabs of food dust and left overs to avoid messing it up.

I also sweep the floor when am done and mop it to ensure the clean state is maintained. The kitchen is my favorite spot and I love to cook hence It should be kept clean and hygienic at all times.
