There are two types of plasters. One is used to cover the walls to make them more beautiful. And the other type of plaster is medical plaster which is used to cover the small cuts and wounds. Medical plaster is also defined as a medicated piece of adhesive material finely loaded with the medical substance.

Medical Plaster History

Plaster is a piece of adhesive tape or a piece of clothe which is used to cover the wounds and the small cuts.

The history of the plaster is very old and according to the ResearchGate it is 3000 years old when the first plaster came into being in the Egypt. And there is another statement as well according to the Plastermagic, the first ever plaster was found in southern Turkey and northern Syria. And it is 14000 years old.

Russians doctors also used plaster for the different purposes and at that time the plaster was made from the fat, wax, resins as well as from the fine fabrics. And the formation of the plaster hasn't been changed yet.

Types of plaster

There are different types of plasters which are used in our daily life.

Common plaster

It is the sterile plaster which is used commonly. It provides a normal wound healing environment. These are water proof so that the patients can take shower or bathe without any loss of further problems.

Adhesive plaster

It is an adhesive plaster and it is also known as zinc oxide plaster which is composed of cotton and plaster zinc oxide. The width of this plaster is 5 cm and it is used in the hospitals for the surgical dressing. On the other hand it is also used to cover the injuries and cuts.

Belladonna plaster

It is the most important type of the plaster and it's use is very critical and specific. It is used for the dead bodies. In the funerals this special plaster is used to join the tissues of the body. Moreover it is used to join the parts of the body and to fill the body wounds. It provides a barrier towards the external bacteria.

Hydrocolloid plaster

You will be surprised to know about this type of plaster. Hydrocolloid plaster was especially introduced for the blisters, spots and burns. These plasters have soothing effects and these increase the natural soothing process of the body. This is also used for the surgical wounds.

Washproof plaster

These are the most commonly used plasters. These are like adhesive plasters. These plasters have the ability to keep the wound safe from the water, dirt and dust. And in this way it catalyzes the natural healing process.

Fabric plaster

Fabric plasters are also used to cover the wounds. This type of plasters provide heat and compression to the affected part. These can protect our tendens and ligaments and provide a support to them.

Fracture plaster

These plasters are hard in nature because these are used to combine the fractures. These are made up of soft fabric to hard plastic. Depending upon the requirement these plasters are used. These play an important role in order to combine the broken bones.

Transparent plaster

Transparent plasters are also available. Sometimes we have to monitor the wounds without removing the dressing of plaster. In order to cope with this situation such transparent plasters are used. It is the smart use of the transparent plaster.

First Aid

Plasters are the essential element of each first aid box. If someone face a severe injury and there is no availability of the hospital nearby then that plaster in the first aid box will help us to cover the wounds. And it will be used as the first aid.

Breathable

Plasters are made breathable. It means that just like our breathing process these plasters allow the air to pass out the plaster. Air passing towards the wound and out of the wound is very useful to keep the wound dry. It helps to increase the natural healing process.

Size and Shapes

Medical plasters come in various sizes and shapes. We can get each size of medical plaster according to our requirements. We can even cut our desired piece from the complete piece of the plaster.

My interaction with the plasters

I have worked at a medical store and a clinic. I have sold many adhesive plasters, Washproof plasters as well as fabric plasters. Mostly people came to get washproof plasters. As we know that these washproof plasters save the cuts, wounds from the external water and dirt. These are soft and can be used at any part of the body. These are easily foldable. We can use them at our fingers, hands, cheeks and feet and wherever they can be placed.

I have also used the washproof plasters and adhesive plasters with the wholes in them. Whenever I had a little cut I used to apply washproof plasters. And if I had any pimples, acne at my skin then in order to eliminate them and to remove puss from then without pressing then with my hands I used to apply adhesive plaster coated with the medical substance. That medical substance help to make ripe the acne so that the puss can be removed automatically. That plaster is highly washproof as well.

Conclusion

Plasters have very old history and these are in operation from the last many years. And nowadays many types of plasters are in the market and depending upon the requirements these are being used. Plasters play an important role in our daily life as these are used to cover and protect the wounds from the dust and dirt and increase the natural healing process by protecting it from the harmful bacteria. Plaster is the essential part of the first aid. Almost all of us have used plaster in our everyday life.

I am inviting @uzma4882, @aaliarubab to join this wonderful contest.

Hi @akmalshakir, good thing I stopped by your post, which I loved, as you let us read in it the history of band aids and the types of them that exist.

I remember my mom always had them when we were little, kids always for some reason end up with some little cut, and it's good to have band-aids always on hand.

Greetings.

I'm really interested in history of such small things and it's amazing to know that these simple plasters have even thousands of years history. It reflects the human struggle with the invocation with time according to changing circumstances .Thanks for sharing your blog on this topic.
