The Steemleo Weekly Writing Contest Week #4 | Can Social Media on the Blockchain Work in the Real World

https://steemleo.com/leowritingcontest/@steem.leo/the-steemleo-weekly-writing-contest-week-4-or-can-social-media-on-the-blockchain-work-in-the-real-world)

What is your experience with social networking on the blockchain (i.e. Steem-based platforms) or other platforms outside of Steem

Initially, I participated in Zappchain, this platform was making life for really influential people of the cryptos, sometimes they wrote owners, dev, co-founders, and as a way to give publicity or encourage the use of their product, they offered great rewards for the criticism, evaluation or opinion about their platform or product, or simply asked for opinions about topics that they were looking for other points of view. Then participate in Taringa! when they added bitcoin as a means of payment, all users had several points to give according to the rank they had on the platform, they earned by creating content, or simply phishing, there were ways to break the system, or monopolize the homepage, not unlike what they did at Steemit with the bots, at that time you had to use Xapo as a wallet linked to your Taringa account, simple users only gave bits instead of points, and content creators with the special role of "creator", could get bitcoin depending on the visits their posts received, it was lucrative. At that time for 2016 we had heard of Steemit, I joined, but I lost my password, so it was a different experience in terms of the use of Keys, having total ignorance of the decentralization in its practical use, ie your account was not backed up on a server where you could easily recover, so when I re-created the account between 6 or 8 months later, still came those publications with absurd amounts of money in the posts.

Initially in the Spanish speaking community, the users I used to know were experts in their subjects, the one who made photo posts was a professional photographer, the writer was someone with a career, the one who talked about the economy had studied in that subject, it was what caught me the most, meeting experts in their areas, their stories, I used to ask for advice on how the work environment is, and those things, was what caught me most of the small Hispanic community that by then was no more than 400 or 500 people, was locked in the discord, honestly was a big mistake, being able to meet users who are now orcas, dolphins, or great influencers. Personally I had an idea that if one helped the community grow, such a community culture would be created, I spent years explaining to the users everything about cryptocurrency, initially they were, how it works, because the blockchain and its practical use in the platform, everyone or a large percentage knows the phrase of: "everything you do in the blockchain is registered" but they don't really know how to find that data, the experience in the Hispanic community, is that there were people who took advantage of many conditions, created projects and used the Venezuelan flag, to create community and profit with the terms that in Venezuela there is a dictatorship and they would be the ones who would distribute the benefits to the community, many of those projects, more than 40 projects are currently missing, many of the community leaders or as I call them, the politicians and their parties, They no longer make life in steem, they left with the money that they could drain, by means of delegations, the handling of trail at their whim, and taking advantage of the fact that the community was less and less investigative, and individual even when what unites them is the place where they belong, that is, Venezuela, They were and still are with the mentality that you must support when they ask you "if you don't do it you are not Venezuelan", and they get deeply upset, at least in my case it was always like that, I preferred to make life with asian, african or european as german communities.

When you really understand, and you put together the whole history of Hispanics, really the pseudo-soldiers, who took everything they could and left the platform you realize how things work, I saw in the users mostly very skilled plagiarizers, multi-accounts, or just people organized to take healing roles in the community with the argument that they are there for Hispanics, when there was a mafia structure, which only benefited themselves, and the people who praised them, that's why Hispanics always had arguments and wars trying to get those who delegated steem power to them, to take it back to their political parties.

When you realize that anyone with enough ambition could aspire to the same and that you just needed an organized group to overthrow the existing structures, or replace them in other sectors, you understand how everything works, if you control the roles of healing you can make any project you create, be the most successful because you have that which encourages users to be part of your community.

You also understand that the "community" ends up being individual people, that they form in clans or small groups, some just publish, and leave their publication in the channels of discord, place the tags, and that they prefer to follow the politicians that promise them because it is easier to leave comments in the publications where some dolphin, orca, would give a delegation to that conformed the community.

When you understand that any person can come and believe himself authority threatening and harassing users, there are many examples of these types of characters, some are self-programmed cleaners, although I recognize their work to clean so many scammers, their attitude ended up throwing good content creators for the harassment that gave them, And just like that person there are others, that because of ignorance is very easy to attack anyone under a reasonable argument, in short, currently, in the Hispanic community, there are very few content creators, and too many multi-accounts, few projects that can value the content creator, and many mafia circles.

This was my experience in the platforms of Zappchain, Taringa, and Steemit, after that social media platform based on blockchain or tokenized, I used them to discover their dynamics and operation, hoping that they are profitable but it has been quite difficult to find platforms that are worth it, in my profile, there are a series of reviews to which I will attach in this publication:

Review Trybe - Blockchain-Based Social Media Platform

What differences does this platform have with Steemit, the points give you a range that allows you to give some trybe tokens per publication, in addition to the fact that when you publish it goes through a review and if it is approved the publication is published, it requires a minimum of 300 words, it cannot be similar to what has been published before.

The disadvantage is that it is oriented to an exclusive niche, economy, crypto, and blockchain which limits other users, whose content is different from expressing themselves and using the platform.

Memo.cash - Blockchain-Based Social Media Platform

Compared to Steemit, it has some similar points, the key they give you in your account, and the interaction with the community in your posts, although it is much easier to use because you don't have to learn as many terms as in steem, it is more user-friendly than I have ever had contact with a blockchain-based blogging platform.

For me, the most horizontal platforms in terms of how the users distribute their income, according to the voting system:

Uptrennd - Blockchain-Based Social Media Platform

Publish0x - Blockchain-Based Social Media Platform

These platforms in the personal, are more balanced to give reward between users, in fact the same users, through their vote, either in uptrennd, or in publish0x where it is agnostic and can give, bat, hydro, dai, have a good system, which encourages content creators to publish, obviously both platforms are oriented to blockchain, and unlike steem, the publications do not have expiration of 7 days, and that users do not need to have an absurd amount of steem power to give a vote of 0.01$.

Social Media Platform: Mind

I don't have much to say about this platform, I wasn't very fond of it, the only positive thing I have is that the forms of monetization, subscription to the content, the generation of exclusive content is an interesting feature.

These platforms have the same dynamics, i.e. you can reward the best comments (similar to 3speak), encouraging the participation of users in your publication.

Cent - Social Media Based in blockchain

Masmic- Social media based in Blockchain

Tipestry - Social Media Platform

Review de Flote.app

This platform was different from many of the ones I found, in the sense that it is oriented to another niche, specifically sports, e-sport and betting.

Scorum - Social Media Sport Content Based in blockchain

Scorum is a platform for creating sports-oriented content, e-sport, sports betting, from table games like poker, chess, pool, winter games like sky, ice skating, and you are a fan of some soccer team, football, baseball, basketball, cricket, formula 1, rugby, whatever the sport is this is the ideal platform for you. So share your passion with the users and do sports blogging on this platform. Best of all based on blockchain.

The Scorum team dedicated its efforts to be a sports betting center, on the betting platform you need to have SCR which is the token you earn by blogging or buying it on the Exchanges. Sports, unfortunately, are few, users were waiting for more sports besides the ones I had like football soccer.

The platform is based on POS, and also has delegate or witness systems, which are the ones that validate the transactions. There are 18 main witness, and the rest are support, has as main incentive the SCR scorum coin, which is the liquid currency and can be transferred between wallets, and also has the SP Scorum power which are the tokens in stake, it is worth noting that the power down of the SP has a duration of 12 months.

We can see how the posts are on this platform, and how you vote on a post, it's wonderful to find users who make posts from @steem-monster (splinterlands) on other platforms, so I decided to give you a vote so you can have more reach to your post.

The positive thing about this platform:

  • As a niche-oriented platform, it is a good place to find people with similar tastes and interests.

  • The value of Scorum Coin is low, this can be beneficial if you want all your posts to be trending, and it will help your blog to have more interactions when voting for comments on your posts or supporting content that you think is quality.

  • The community that makes life is motivating, they always want to adopt new members.

Negative

  • The low volume of the SCR and the amount of movement, made it be detached from exchanges, there are fewer and fewer options to perform the change of SCR to Eth.

  • The developers seem to have abandoned the platform, there are few updates, they spent their efforts on the legal part, preferring to be a betting platform, instead of continuing to work on the content platform and group users, attract athletes, team sponsors, and make a better campaign.

  • In telegram the moderation team is not pending, of the precocious questions, even when who handles that role is a human, I have seen more intelligent, attentive and useful bots for example @banjo.

Conclusions:

I thought it was a good platform, even with all its flaws, even for not having fulfilled many of the things they proposed in their whitepaper, maybe they will take up the project again in the blogging platform, they were the pioneers in making a social media based on blockchain-oriented to sports, I expected a lot from this platform, you can blog here for fun as in other places.

The low of their currency can be a strength to use this platform to publicize e-sports.

Obviously I'm a fan of blockchain based social media and I could write even more about it in fact I plan to review a list I have on bitcointalk.

Where do you see social media on the blockchain in 5-10 years? Dead in the water or adopted by the masses?

When you see the list of existing platforms, you realize that adoption must occur, it is only a question of the prices of altcoins going up so that these projects attract masses, ideas exist, cases of uses, interactions, and different options, it is something inevitable.

Hi @the01crow

I am very sincere two days to read your publication, for strictly country reasons.
They cut my electricity.
However, from the first day I could read your publication, the first thing I did was to give Resteem.

Thank you for making known all the links you mention, there are many who had never read or seen anything about it. congratulations I hope you can win the contest.

Greetings.

so incredible that I can see clearly and I don't really understand what's on / blockchain right now maybe what you are saying, when taking as from another platform to another platform and faithfully people use many #tags because we are small users not it's only natural if someone wants to get an award from every other community. when I talk about blockchain I don't really understand blockchain. but after I read your post, maybe I will understand a little about what's on the blockchain right now and the steem-engine provides a lot of opportunities for everyone in the world of your words, incredible

👌👌👍

When we talk about blockchain and how it is used for blogging we are referring to several aspects:

a) When generated, blocks transactions are within them, these can be the set of actions such as, follow, share, comment, vote, flag, publish, edit either a comment or publication, follow and stop following, all these actions generate a signature that is in the blockchain (a hash), and in turn a set of actions that are grouped together end up in a block, the succession of block after block is what is known as blockchain. It is really important to know the transparency because it is verifiable the information that is hosted in those blocks and that can not be manipulated, because it contains information from the previous code, and some information from the code of this block influences the next, there the name of blockchain.

b) For blogging purposes the reward could be given in tokens, or cryptocurrency instead of values like I like, or upvote like in reddit, that the points end in karma, in the blockchain depending on the platform those points have some function for example in platforms like uptrennd, the points serve to give more exposure to the publication or level up the account, in steemit those points would be translated into a token or steem that could then be taken to staking for the value of the vote to be higher or receive rewards for valuing publications.

Unlike conventional platforms such as blogging with google, which monetized your content as long as you had a certain number of visits and a certain number of requirements, and were subject to the policies to be able to obtain income, it is really difficult to obtain income by blogging, in other platforms at least it is a moderately considerable amount, and it is what makes the blockchain platforms and the conventional ones different.

Another aspect that I almost forgot is, the freedom that authors have in being able to write about whatever they want, and that the medium that is used cannot censor you, and that is the difference.

thanks you it is very nice when I can read as from your post

I must congratulate you dear friend @the01crow your work is very complete. You have many pages to share and try as you have already done. I have also reviewed many of them and you know what? I always return to Steemit, it is easy to work, it is wide in its niches and we already know that it pays and is safe. Great work.

In terms of variety steem has better things to offer, 3speak, dtube, vymm, dclick, hivemind using front-ends, games, and the number of users, is everything.

Volvisteeeeeeee @isabelpena

Claro, cómo no voy a volver!!!!

Wow. That's quite a long post. I cant believe that I read it all. Thx for sharing your journey and experience with us.

I must admit that I've never heard about Zappchain. Are you still active there?

Would you also mind telling me , how did you do those changing pictures with some text being displayed on them? Is it animated gif?
Also: it's hard to read white letters on yellow background. I would suggest not to use such a bright yellow background - it doesn't encourage to stop and read. It encourages to scroll down and skip that part entirely. Just a thought.

ps.
I've noticed that you're trying to use tags related to different HIVEs. Did you add some of them manually? I don't think it does work well.
Your post is visible on steemleo hive, but it's not visible on OCD and Media Chains.

Strong upvote on the way :)
Yours, Piotr

Just off your title...
... it's not a question of can, but will. The world needs it. I believe digital asset value is crucial to the overall development of global communities and the overall society. If we do not see decentralized-sm beginning to take flight in the next couple of years, I believe it will because of opposition, not market factors.

In regards to many of the problems (i.e. plagerism and abandonment) you list, I believe these issues will be shown to be much less problematic on blockchains. After all, why would anyone (even a scammer) leave if a crypto has promising growth potential. Economic incentives in this way encourage a duality of responsibility because reputations inevitable mean money.

Now, I must admit that I only read up to your dark blue crow logo, then skimmed the rest. Was not prepared for anything more than a five minute read/thought exercise. Additionally, my decentralized social media experience is limited to Steemit and Whaleshares.

That said, I really took to the paragraph from where I pulled this quote:

7 days, and that users do not need to have an absurd amount of steem power to give a vote of 0.01$.

Both of these issues have been major drawbacks for me.

Glad to get to know you through Project #Hope.

P.S. It is my belief that the Steemit devs want their tech to become a customizable social media tool rather than a usable platform- to run as a bottom layer for others to develop attractive user interfaces on top of.
