STEEMIT ENGAGEMENT CHALLENGE SEASON 2 | PROMOTE STEEM IN YOUR CITY AND TRY TO RECRUIT A NEW USER
INTRODUCTION
Hello my darling steemian friends. I want to welcome you to my blog and my entry for the steemit engagement contest organized by #steemAlive community. Congratulations once more to the community for being amongst the hosts for season 2 engagement contest.
I must say this is an interesting contest and it comes just in times for me. Few weeks ago some steemians and I have been thinking about how to expand our activities in our area and make steemit to be felt by everyone. After chatting with them (@monjuapollonia, @breeze.com, @chiabertrand and @tangwe-rene) we decided to carry out a steemit campaign around the university area and some places in the city. We also decided to make and office which will help us in training newbies and our promotion. Just when the design for the flyer to be used was made this contest pops up. It is a good one as it is a starting point of steemit evangelization in my city. So in order to do our group goals we decided to do it on Saturday 11th June 2022 at the university campus, a day when students would be relaxing with sporting activies giving us room to better communicate with them. At 11:00am we gathered at @breeze,com’s business site, got the promotion materials and went out to preach The gospel According to Steemit

METHODS USED IN PROMOTING STEEM
To carry pout this task I used flyers and mouth of moth methods. I used flyers to distribute to the persons I met accompanied by an explanation with my mouth about what steemit is, its goals and benefits for each user and how it functions

HOW DID PEOPLE RESPOND TO MY PROMOTION EFFORTS?
It was actually a good exercise I had creating awareness about steem in my area. From what I noticed about the people I talked was lack of information about steemit and crypto currency or block chain. With this in their minds they were very timid in listening to us talk about steemit and others after listening didn’t want to sign up
What are the main challenges that hinder users from joining?
During the promotion I witnessed many things which made users not to join steemit
LACK OF AN ANDROID PHONE
Some people I spoke to actually like the idea about steemit and block chain network but what hindered them was no android phone. The area is a crisis area and so with all the hazards around especially kidnapping and taking of phones many people have resulted to the analog system as it is cheap to get. Without an android phone I couldn’t sign up 3 persons who wanted to join
IGNORANCE ABOUT THE PLATFORM
Going out for the promotion I realized how shallow minded and ignorant many people are about steemit. Talking to the people I got these responses below
• I don’t listen to Jehovah witness people
• Is it 1XBET? If it is not then I don’t want to listen. I like only 1XBET
• I don’t like online marketing as it doesn’t pay
• How much will I make when I post?
• I don’t have time to be posting
Looking at these responses from the people one can laugh but I can say they don’t know about steemit and the benefits it has. Some you can predict is just laziness as many people don’t want to work but they want to eat.
WERE YOU ABLE TO SIGN UP NEW USERS?
Yes my team and I succeeded to sign up one user the challenges we met during the promotion we were able to sign a lady with username @mambi. She is a business lady who roast maize along the ENS street in Bambili and so she was our first stop for the promotion. Firstly we decided to buy some of the roasted corn to eat while we spoke to her about steemit. This was s way of patronising her and getting her attention as we spoke to her. She was mostly interested in the money she can make when she makes a post but we made her understand how the system functions, the types of posts she can make and where. She was also worried about how to get her money which he explained the various cash out methods and the process too.
She got signed up immediately as she understood what steemit is all about. While we spoke to her about steemit her sister wanted to join but we couldn’t as her phone was low and there was no electricity in the area. Nevertheless she will be signed up by tomorrow

THE MAIN CHALLENGES I FACED DURING STEEM PROMOTION
POOR MINDSET OF PEOPLE ABOUT BLOCK CHAIN NETWORK
If you look at our society today we will realize that many people seem to be running away from digital marketing and systems. This is as a result of the rampant digital fraud carried out by young people. This makes people not want to listen to anything that have to do with digital systems and cryptos. While talking with a man today he told me he doesn’t want to join because he doesn’t trust online businesses as he has been a victim of an online scam and he has lost a lot of money. Though I took out time to explain how legit steemit is and even showing the system as a whole with our activities he still didn’t believe me.
Also people think that steemit is like other crypto currencies that came and didn’t last long after many people invested. I can remember around 2015 when people cried as they had invested in BTC but they lost money as they system had a problem and the person who did the promotion ran away with their money. This and many makes people not want to hear about crypto related talks
PROMOTION MATERIALS LIKE A T-SHIRT
This was a problem to us going to talk to people as they didn’t see us serious and take us serious. Some thought we were those Gospel preachers who go around disturbing people and didn’t want to listen to us. Though we were preaching the Gospel according to Steemit.
INTERNET INSTABILITY
This was one of the reasons we couldn’t sign up more users during the promotion. We live in a region where resources are limited right up to internet services. There are some areas that do not have any network signal which makes communication difficult. In Bambili and the region we sometimes internet disruption for hours or a day which limits our online activities. Today happen to be a day of internet fluctuation and hence limiting our work.
PROPOSED SOLUTIONS
To overcome these challenges during steemit promotion, we need to;
• Organize more promotion campaigns in the city. We can do it by constantly doing roadshow promotion at various places in the city, organize seminars or radio talk so as to reach a multitude of people. Also a steemit promotion center/office will be open in the city so as to help us carryout our steemit activities smoothly
• Since we have been strategizing on how to increase steemit in our city, we will print T-shirts to use during our public event so as to give more credit to our work
• With respect to internet problems since we cannot overcome it totally, we can buy a WIFI box and use so that we don’t have problems if internet services are not available.
CONCLUSION
In general the activity was a good one for me as I got to learn many things about how people feel about social media platforms and better manage their worries. It gave me the opportunity to meet and make new friends in the process. Also it was an xcercise for me despite the fact I was just coming from the farm but it helped me calm my nerves as I laughed during the promotion process

I am glad to be part of your team who went out in promoting STEEM at the University of Bamenda. I am also glad that due to all those Challenges we went through, we where still able to overcome them all and we finally got one person signed up. I hope we have more opportunities like this in future so that we can preach about steemit to the entire population of Bamenda
