Introduction

It has been a great honor to be one of the country representatives fro Nigeria. I am very grateful for the opportunity and support from @steemitblog and @steemcurator01. This work comes with a lot of responsibility. I am happy to have contributed to the growth and support of Steemit in Nigeria. I will continue to make bigger efforts.

I want to appologise for never making this weekly reports as expected. I honestly wished to make them, but the added responsibility of building a community from scratch, maintaining my personal blog and doing CR work meant that I rarely have time for other things. But from now on, no matter how busy I was, I will squeeze out time to report on my work. So here is how far I have done in the past one week.

Recruitment

I have been making effort to spread the word through all available channels. Its not always easy to convince people, but I have made efforts to show that this place works and is worth a new comers time. So this week, I was able to mentor and recruit 4 new persons. Here are their usernames:

I am still working on them to complete their mentoring . SOme are faster than others. For example, @leo-kitti completed her achievement 4 in 3 days.

Engagement and Retention

These two are top priority for me and I can boldly say that we are doing well in that regard. To boost retention and engagement, we host weekly contests using our @steemalive community and we always record 100+ engaging comments in each contest. This is also another way to retain users by giving them something exciting to do. Here are our last 3 contents and the engagement numbers:

Curation

I received 5000SP delegation just like other Country representatives. I have used this steem power to support authors from Nigeria, although we have a growing number of them. In the past 1 week, I have been able to give out 60 upvotes to 24 accounts. Here is a screengrab of what it looks like:

Conclusion/More work

Retention is one area we are really battling with. Some authors from Nigeria are not really active. We have been making efforts to reach out to them and get them re-activated. There are more than 80 accounts from Nigeria and it is not really easy to bring them all together. I have used @steemalive community to keep a good number together and active. I will continue to make further efforts both in recruitment and retention. We have a quite higher score with engagement.

I have a plan to do another list of Nigerians on Steemit according to City and location. There are many of them that live in the same city or state that does not know each other. IF we can make them aware of users from their city, then we can bring them together and form a small group. They will be able to meet at least once a week and discuss how to market Steemit in their city or location. Identifying users in the same location and forming active groups, which may eventuallly grow to form a community is a great way forward. We have to build and maintain active groups and communities if we are to maintain engagement and achieve retention. Each member checks on the other to see how they are doing and encourages them. This will create a sense of belonging.

I hope these and other efforts by @beautychicks in the SteemAfrica community will help to grow a steady active userbase from Nigeria. Thank you once again for this opportunity @steemiblog. I will continue to do more if allowed this opportunity to do so.

Best regards,

@focusnow.

You are really doing a great job for the Nigerian community and I must commend you for it. I think the idea of creating small groups for steemains in the same location or city is going to go a long way in retaining these users.

Once again you are doing a great job @focusnow and I couldn't think of anyone better for this position.

You really have such a great responsibility you are shuddering alone. As a country representative, building a community from scratch, curation work, and maintaining your own blog. But I can add that you are also mentoring both old and new users because you never give any excuse when called upon for assistance of any kind so long as it has to do with @steemit and @steemalive. I will always give you a thumb up because you are not lacking in any of these. About engagement and retention, you are doing great job too. I am a witness to the fact that we see weekly contest and you don't just drop them but encourage us to take part. You are doing great job. I can see my name among those that have benefited from the 5000sp given to you as country representative, I am glad that you are really doing great job on that too. The idea of linking users in the same location is awesome. Sometimes I feel that I am a lone tree in my location, Uyo Akwa Ibom State. I have not for one day mistakenly met any of them. Bringing us together will be awesome. It will benefit a lot of us and help in recruitment and retention. I was trying to recruit someone the other day, he told me that he had heard about steemit but that it was a long time ago. That all the things he was told about steemit, that he can no longer recall them. So, I see this city of Uyo as a fertile ground that needs to be cultivated. @focusnow, you are a leader to be reckoned with. You are a leader that always brings out the best in your subjects. You are a leader that is selfless, always ready at any time to give listening ear, assistance and mentoring to all and sundry, you are just like Moses who replied when others were telling him, are you the only one God is using? Is God's spirit not also in us? Why are you lifting yourself up above everyone else in the camp? Hmm, he humbly replied, I wish that all of us will be leaders and prophets. What a humble disposition. And that is how you are. You will always tell me and others, that you want us also to be chosen as country representative. That is what I mean. You are the best. Whoever that suggested you as a country representative did not make any mistakes at all. They must be proud that you are doing great job. May you succeed in all you endeavors. I am proud to be associated with you my able admin. Keep soaring high. Steemit to the moon. Steemalive to the moon as well. Thank you, thank you and thank you.
