Contest 4.01: Looking Back/Look Forward #ccc | A Living Kidney Donor

in CCC3 years ago

Today I am going to share with you an unforgettable memory of my life a few years back.

It's like using a help channel to have a brother. You're going to make everyone happy for you as a result of your fun. He'll simply be a shoulder to cry on. You should never feel lonely because you have a brother. It's still amusing to taunt your younger brother and convince him that all of his girls are bad for him. Often you're going to get a chance to pull his leg by letting out your family members' secrets.

Five months after I gave birth to my son (he is a physically and intellectually challenged boy), my youngest brother asked me if I can be his possible kidney donor. I said why not if our blood type and tissues match. His doctor scheduled us for a series of tests and VOILA! we were 99.9% matched! So after the tests, we were then scheduled for a KIDNEY TRANSPLANT.

I donated my right kidney to my youngest brother on February 7, 2000...21 years now and I am grateful that I did! I am healthy, strong, and alive! I eat healthy foods such as poultry products, seafood, fresh vegetables, and fruits. Just eat in moderation and have your Nephrologist check your kidney every year. Monitor your creatinine every six months, your urine every month, or better still have blood chemistry annually. I hope this is an eye-opener for those whose love one needs your help to extend their precious life on earth.

Our best family tradition is saving one another, but I guess that's what happens when you have a close family knit. There is nothing better than the smiles of your nearest and dearest that will keep forever.

It was successful, but after six (6) months of recovery, he had a pulmonary infection and that caused his death.

Looking back, I am grateful that I donated my kidney to help him live a little longer on earth, even though it was heartbreaking for the family because he died so young (he was just 27 years old) but looking forward, life must go on because God has other plans for him. I miss my brother terribly, but I know he is now at peace with our Creator. So long... SEE YOU AROUND MY DEAR, BROTHER. I adore you.

NOTE:

I write this subject matter, not to brag but to help and share to those who wanted to donate their kidney or organs to their loved ones but reluctant to do so because they are not fully informed, aware, and are scared.

That was a brave act of kindness sis to think that you just gave birth 5 months ago. Maayo la Ka mabughat. Grabe! At least you've done your part to save your brother. God bless you more sis!

Thank you sis. Wala naman magtutulungan kundi tayong miembro ng familia. God always make a way even though He has other purpose for my brother.

I find it a big sacrifice what you did and strange the match was that high. It can only happen with twins. I understand it gave your brother 6 more months and these 6 months weren't free of fear, medication, medical checks. For you these checks are still there for the rest of your life.

The good thing about kidney and liver is no one needs to die to give.
I do wonder what you will do if your own child will need a kidney.

My children and I discussed organ donation, we do on a frequently basis. We decided we will not give but also not accept organs from someone else.

Many die in a terrible way, the receivers are on meds and a part doesn't feel happy but miserable mixed with guilt.
We believe there's a time to live and one to die and we have to do it with that fact. If time is up it's up and age has nothing to do with it.

It takes courage to do what you did, next to hoping for the best. Your article did not inspire me to do the same but that's me. I can not live with the idea of someone dying for me.

An organ donation if it matches is only for a few years. After that every few years someone new needs to die to make it possible for one person to grow old. In general 5 people to make one live 25 years... I find this knowledge shocking.

Kidneys and liver are the most asked organs. They can be given by people alive but in most cases this is not the case.
Those having an accident already by entrance in certain hospitals are labeled as organ donors, are kept "alive" are not treated and die while they feel how organs are pulled out of them (no narcose)... Family of those donors are shocked if they see the pain on the face of their beloved one and frequently complain more organs were taken as agreed.
Since this is a business, a horrible one, where rich even pay to get an organ asap, people are kidnapped for it and left behind for dead and it's no free choice who gets your organ for me this is enough reason to say no. Me and my family signed a codicil against donor organs. No giving, no accepting.

My hat off for what you did.

Thanks for sharing this story and I am sorry for your lost.
🍀❤️

I know that everyone is not willing to donate a part of their organs but if you see your loved one who suffers a lot and needs help I, as a Christian knows in my heart what to do and is willing to sacrifice to extend the life of a loved one even for just a while. I love my brother so much and I don't want to turn his plea asking for help in order to live that is why I gave a part of me which is my right kidney. People can live even for one kidney. Just take good extra care of yourself if you only have one kidney and everybody should even if you have a complete organ. Health is wealth as we all know that.

I understand your point of view, that is your opinion. Thank you for having said that.

I don't think being a christian has anything to do with it. There are christians who refuse a foctor's help, blood transfusions because they are a Christian.

I understand your point of view too but I still wonder how you feel if your child needs a kidney.
Health is wealth indeed and I know all about it. 🍀👍💖
I hope you and your family stay healthy.

Greetings. I am sad he died but he did an act of kindness trying to save a life. I am glad to have read this heroic story. You were a very lucky person to find a donation with such a high acceptance rate. Although he is family not every family is matched so favorably.

Take care of yourself.

I gave you my vote and resteem.

He is my recipient @gertu. I was the one who donated the kidney. You are right not everyone in the family has a blood and tissue match, that is why those who needed transplants to pay for a donor. But today, even if you are not a match, there is a new technology for organ rejection.

Thank you so much. Take care of yourself as well.

I misread the translation of the post. I thought the person who died was the donor. My apologies for the mistake. It's kind of sad all though very commendable on your part. I have a friend who received a donation. She rejected it and did another transplant. She is still suffering with so many mishaps. She has been struggling for over 10 years now. She is very grateful because she is still alive.
I cannot donate. I am a carrier of pathologies.
