Created on this day 4th February 2004 – Facebook - The beginning of Social Media
On this day, 4th February in the year 2004, the global phenomenon the is Facebook was launched on the internet. The site, origially known as "The Facebook", was created by Mark Zuckerberg and his fellow college room-mates and friends Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes. The initial idea was to connect the students of Harvard University in Massachusetts, where they all studied, in an online community. It became extremely popular, and so they extended it out to the other Ivy League colleges and eventually it was linking many of the Universities across the United States and Canada.
Facebook of course has gone on to become one of the biggest internet companies the world has ever seen – it has now morphed into Meta as Zuckerberg took on the challenge of trying to dominate the virtual world. To its credit, it has allowed friends and people to interact, businesses to grow and social media to proliferate. Without its creation, I guess other social media sites, including of course Steemit would never have seen the light of day.
So whether you like it or not, we all owe a debt of gratitude to Mark Zuckerberg and the vision he had back in early 2004....
