Spring is a beautiful time. The weather is getting warmer and nature is starting to come back to life after a long winter. It sprouts and grows. For many, spring is probably the best season. Now it's time to spend more time outdoor. It's good to feel the warmth.

A few days ago, on my way home from work, I made sure to take a detour to Gimle Gård and the botanical garden. This is one of my favorite places all year round. I therefore want to share photos from a day when I visited the garden next to the old manor house Gimle Gård. In addition to the botanical garden, there is a natural history museum adjacent to the garden ( the red buildings). Here you can see exhibitions about animals, nature, minerals etc. A forrest is surrounding the whole area. There are several trails to follow.

The botanical garden is open all year round. The garden is beautiful whatever the season. In autumn, the trees are quite a sight with their yellow, orange and red leaves. But spring every tree and plant starts to sprout. Not only in the landscaped garden, but also in the forest and along the surrounding forest paths. If you come during the day, you will see that the garden is being prepared by the gardener. This garden is one of six botanical gardens in Norway. Very popular for familes, but school children and kindergartens also visit. There are many plants here. Some of them are Norwegian, but some are also imported or people have switched to them from other countries.

Gimle Gård was built at the end of the 18th century as a farm, but only for pleasure and recreation. The purpose was to have a place where fresh air and nature could be enjoyed. But the large halls were also used for parties. From what I know, approximately 30 such farms should have been built around Kristiansand. Eventually, these wealthy farm owners found out that they wanted to do agriculture. They had animals such as pigs and chickens. They even cultivated wine! The last ball held here was in 1976.

This former mansion is part of Kristiansand Museum and is open to the public. When I see it from the outside, it looks well maintained. This magnificent building, was built one of these rich merchant. When he died, he passed it down to the next genreration. The last person in the family died in 1982 and in her will she left the farm to Kristiansand municipality, but with conditions: maintenance and preservation. The farm opened up to the public in the summer of 1985, but it took many years before I saw the inside of the house. But I have visited the botanical garden, the surrounding forest and the natural history museum many times.

Other botanical gardens from many spots around the world are surely as beautiful as the ones you're mentioning in the article. Meanwhile, in my own city, the place was abandoned by local government and destroyed by thieves. 🙁

Such a shame to what happened in your city. Gardens like these makes great places for recreation.
