My Weekly Powerup | #club100 | A city walking tour in the rain (Copenhagen, Denmark) (#steemexclusive / 14 photos)

in Steemit Travel2 years ago

In June I was in Copenhagen, but only for a few days. The plan was to visit art exhibitions and museums. I was able to do that for the first 3 days. On the last day, my friend and I had a plan to go through one of the city's areas where an old fortification is found. The Little Mermaid, which is probably is the city's most famous attraction, is also located in this area. Although I have been to Copenhagen several times, I had not yet seen her. But this time we made it. Unfortunately, it rained all day, so it became a wet walk.

The first stop is here in «Nyboder». The houses we see here date back to the time of King Christian IV (17th century). The streets are paved with cobblestones and the ochre-yellow houses seem a great contrast to the mansion-like facades in the same residential quarter. We experienced it as a special place to wander around. The houses were built in the 1630s to house the families of sailors in the Danish navy.

Soon afterwards we come to the "Kastellet", which is an old defensive structure. It is built in a star shape with a moat surrounding it. To enter the fort you have to cross the bridge. It is still an active military base with guards on the inside. Above the gate it says that it was built in 1663. What we did was go straight through and over the bridge at the other end. It rained so much that it didn't inspire to be outside. But we had to walk a few minutes to get to The Little Mermaid.

I don't know exactly when the statue was put up, but I think it has been the very symbol of Copenhagen for many years. The Little Mermaid is a famous fairy tale written by the Danish author H.C. Andersen (Hans Christian Andersen) I don't know exactly when the statue was put up, but I think it has been been here for many years. The Little Mermaid is a famous fairy tale written by the Danish author H.C. Andersen (Hans Christian Andersen) sometime in the 19th century. There are several stories about the mermaid and it has been many years since I read H.C. Andersen. But remember something about the mermaid trading her beautiful singing voice for getting a woman's body. Something she did to get the prince she was in love with. Despite the rain, this was another part of Copenhagen I had wanted to visit for many years.

Hello friend. Good to see your content here. This European City is very emblematic and this little mermaid is so iconic that I don't think anyone never has been heard about the classic history of her. Thank you for sharing this post. 👍🏼
