Bangkok must surely be defined as a world city. Although it is big, hectic with heavy, chaotic traffic, there is something charming about it. Both the nightlife, the markets, museums, shops and not least the food make the city exciting, I think. In addition, it has wonderful palaces and temples in the old part, which are just incredibly beautiful. I have been in Bangkok several times. Each time it has been for a couple of days only. Either before a further journey or a couple of days to shop and enjoy the big city before the journey home. When it comes to history and beautiful palaces, I go to Grand Palace and Wat Pho. They are right next to each other, so they can be visited on the same day.

My absolute favorites in Bangkok are precisely those two. All photos here are from the Grand Palace. Within Grand Palace you will find the complex of Wat Phra Kaeo which is housing the Emerald Buddha. This is probably the most sacred of all shrines in Thailand. The construction process leading to the Grand Palace began in 1782 to mark the founding of Bangkok and a home for the king. Now the king no longer lives here. Today the king lives with his familiy in the Dusit Palace.

The Emerald Buddha has its own «bot». Noe photos were allowed inside, only the building on the outside. At the entrance, many people make offerings

If you look closely, you see many strange figures. Some are gilded, some look like they belong in another world. Some look quite terrifying.

Around the entire Wat Phra Kaeo complex there is a colonnade. All the way around you will find 178 panels that show the complete story of the Ramaki. The beautiful paintings are separated from each other by marble columns. I walked along the entire gallery, but did not take pictures of all 178. This is only a small selection.

It is absolutely worth spending time visiting the Grand Palace and at the same time going over to Wat Pho afterwards. It is also a must see place. Bangkok's oldest and largest temple, with a complete differnet atmosphere than the Grand Palace.

Powering up 100% of all liquid payout! Thanks for the support for making this possible for me each week lately, ty! 😂👍
