Ramesses II was one of the greatest and most powerful pharaoh in ancient Egypt, born in 1303 BC. During the period he was ruling the country, he made many improvements and also enlarged the country. There are so many huge statues of him, monuments and temples dedicated to him. This temple in Luxor is one of them.

The photos were taken in Ramesses II's temple, which was dedicated to the god Amon. When we arrived it was late in the afternoon, so we were the only tourists. A guide who had nothing to do came towards us to offer us his serice. He was probably just waiting for the temple to close for the evening.

Although we declined a guided tour, he was very eager to show us around, point out and explain the meaning of the reliefs on the walls of the pillared hall. We didn't get rid of him, so we just ended up following him around.

It turned out to be a good idea. We got a lot of explanations and information about the temple, the meaning of some of the reliefs, that we wouldn't have otherwise gotten. Luxor has an incredible number of temples that will make you want to stay many days.
