At the top of Lotus Tower and Wood Fired Pizza
When I look at the places to visit around Colombo with my girlfriend, Lotus Tower always comes to mind. Couldn't do it earlier for whatever reason. but, not this time. As we had some business to attend to in the neighborhood we thought to give it a shot. And it's worth it to pay a visit.
Lotus Tower or නෙළුම් කුළුණ is a landmark icon in Sri Lanka that shows the architectural and structural brilliance. As the name suggests the design is based on a lotus flower.
From the top!!
It's located in Colombo 01, near Pettah, just away from the waterfront of the Beira Lake. We took a 120-bus from Piliyandala and after an hour we were on the doorstep of the building. The surroundings give a positive vibe well well-managed footpaths and waterworks beside the Beira lake.
The tower is 351.5 m (1,153 ft) tall. According to the reports, it's the tallest self-supported structure and the second tallest structure in South Asia, the 11th tallest tower in Asia, and the 19th tallest tower in the world. The main purpose of the tower is Telecommunications and Tourist attraction. It costs around US$113 million, which is still highly questionable feasibility and god knows how many years it will take to at least break even.
At the Entrance
We took the tickets from the entrance. It's 2.5 dollars for locals and 20 dollars for the tourists, it's for the entrance and observation decks. Ah as I am saying we get the chance to go to the top and have a breathtaking panoramic view around Colombo and even more on a clear day. The lift we are carrying is the fastest lift in South Asia which takes only 48s to go 243m.
This open-air deck is a great experience to have which provides goosebumps. On the top, they have marked bearings and the distance from there to iconic places in Sri Lanka. And now they provide the facilities for bungee jumping and skydiving as well.
From the Top
Other than that, there are many features like a museum, exhibition halls, a Revolving Restaurant, supermarkets, food courts, etc. The exterior of the Lotus Tower is illuminated using more than 20,000 LED lights.

Vito Wood Fired Pizza
Well for the lunch we needed to do something different. From a recommendation from a friend we went to the Vito Wood Fired Pizza at Arcade Independence Square. It's in a corner of the building and not hard to find. Well as in the images it has such a vibe on both sides.
And with the popularity, we have to wait for around 10 minutes to have a table. I was hungry and wanted to go somewhere else with the queue., and I am glad that we didn't. So, what's the rush? You gotta go there. It's the best Pizza we ever had.
As the name suggests they use wood ovens to cook. That's where the taste comes I guess. They have various varieties and are reasonable with the prices as well. We ordered a medium size pizza and a lasagna. It's so damn good and it's mouthwatering even when remembering. So, a 100% recommendation from my side.
