How to create a quality contest on Steemit and get too much entries?

Contests on the platform have become a key piece for user retention in the various communities that we can find in the ecosystem, I could say that most of them hold at least one weekly contest seeking to encourage the creation of content on a topic. concrete.

This strategy has been applied for more than a year, and it has been a great opportunity for many authors to generate income due to the lack of strong votes in the ecosystem. We have seen extremely interesting contests that captivate the audience, however, others could be unattractive and therefore not have a large number of participants.

Today I have decided to give some formulas and recommendations that I use when launching a contest. You will know in detail the entire process to raise the idea, set up the publication and optimize your topics so that the authors can capture what you want to achieve with your initiative?

What a contest is?

In Steemit, a contest is an initiative where the authors must write about something in particular with the aim of trying to stand out among the other contestants and opt for some kind of prize at the end of the competition. In general, the contests usually last 7 days and the prizes are usually votes, steem, or trx. Contest creators try to promote these dynamics in order to attract many participants and contribute to the creation of original content for Steemit, for this they must choose or propose intuitive and easy-to-understand topics for everyone (generally someone who wants to enter a contest You will not spend more than 1 minute understanding the theme, so it is vital that you are very punctual to capture your theme)

I could say that a contest is made up of 3 vital parts:

  • What do you have to do? Mention in 3 lines or scripts what you want your contestants to do to participate, mention the fundamentals, try to use a verb at the beginning, example: draw, cook, write, etc. In this way your public will know from the first moment what they are going to face.
  • Rules, here make a list of technical instructions for your contestants to make valid entries, minimum number of words, specific details that you want to be met in the publication.
  • Awards, currently the love of art is scarce, you must offer something, clearly mention how many winners there will be and what they will receive.

With this you are almost ready, you already know how to structure a contest but now, what topic are you going to choose?...

How to select a good topic for my contest?

In the first instance, it may seem simple, but choosing a good or bad topic can have a considerable degree of complexity, and this will be crucial in order to attract a lot of participation. Before setting up a contest, I ask myself the following 3 questions to determine if a contest is is it feasible or not:

  • Does my theme allow the contestant to write at least 200 words without using the web?
  • My theme allows the contestant to use at least 2 images of her property or free use?
  • Can my theme make contestants create entries that are very different from each other?

If the answer to those 3 questions is yes, then your theme is acceptable. Here are some examples not very well posed for contests:

Tell me about environmental pollution

  • Does my theme allow the contestant to write at least 200 words without using the web? Probably not.
  • Does my theme allow the contestant to use at least 2 images of the property or free use of it? Yes
  • Can my theme make contestants create entries that are very different from each other? No, it's a very general culture issue. The entries could be very similar.

How do financial institutions work in your country?

  • Does my theme allow the contestant to write at least 200 words without using the web? No, in general people will have to look for details on the web.
  • Does my theme allow the contestant to use at least 2 images of their property or free use? Perhaps, taking photos of banks can be a crime in some regions, so it will be reduced only to free images
  • Can my theme make contestants create entries that are very different from each other? Nope.

And below you could see a couple of optimal topics to perform in a contest format:

Draw a space in your home and show the step by step

  • Does my theme allow the contestant to write at least 200 words without using the web? Yes
  • Does my theme allow the contestant to use at least 2 images of their property or free use? Yes
  • Can my theme make contestants create entries that are very different from each other? Yes

Talk about your biggest fear

  • Does my theme allow the contestant to write at least 200 words without using the web? Yes
  • Does my theme allow the contestant to use at least 2 images of their property or free use? Yes
  • Can my theme make contestants create entries that are very different from each other? Yes

As general recommendations, serve your audience, comment on each entry, in this way you make your audience feel taken into account even if they do not receive an award. Avoid giving winners before the contest ends, you could make your last contestants feel excluded, solve doubts, etc. Good luck and I look forward to seeing those very well thought out contests.

Saludos 7! 😸
