Opportunity Comes but Once... Share with us your thought.

I'm so happy to share my thoughts about this very contest organized by @lhorgic on the topic “Opportunity comes but once”

Opportunity can be a situation or interest in doing something at a particular time when it comes. The word is from the Latin phrase “ob portum veniens” which means coming towards a port, referring to a favorable wind blowing ships into the harbor. Therefore an opportunity seems to be something like a wind that comes towards a person's path.

According to the statement of opportunity comes but once, my thoughts towards it is that it can be Corny and convincing at the same time if one is not careful to realize the breakthrough of it. The statement stating it only comes but one means that if that moment arrived and it's not been utilized properly it will be hard again to see such an opportunity or may even take a longer-time before it comes again. I do agree with the statement because it involves the act of strategy which one should learn and take into consideration.

The statement can be misleading only if one refuses to act on it at the right time, so the actuality is that it makes one ready for any task as it comes for immediate response. And so can not be misleading.

The opportunity that came my way in the past was when I was still studying in my undergraduate days, about the time of my graduation in my final year still struggling around on how I would finish my project going through so many processes, my mum had this one friend of which they schooled together during their diploma days and we're close so after some few years he got an offer for employment into the Nigerian security and civil defense corps (NSCDC) and immediately he called my mum if she had a daughter who had finished her diploma or undergraduate program so that he can do something about it to work in the corps.

This was were the issue began because I was yet to conclude my program due to my study in my final year of which I was in the edge of finishing so my mum told him I would have been in the right position but due to the circumstances around I am still in school waiting to collect my degree certificate and so there is no other who can vouch for the post, he then told her not to worry since that's the case but maybe some other time if there is another slot he would inform her.

It's was an opportunity of it kind and when she told me I was sad but there's nothing I could do than to wait for the right time when it comes again, within me it's was like it only comes once in a blue moon I just had to let go and just focus on finishing and getting my certification, I would have been done but because of the issues of strike in our schooling system and the corona breakthrough I was unable to conclude my studies till it was over and so that's how the opportunity came and went but still hoping for another to come by this time around I would be ready and set for the task ahead of me.

In conclusion, the statement is true but it depends on how we work toward archiving that opportunity that comes our way. As in my case, I had no option and that was why the opportunity came and passed. Everyone has his or her story but when the opportunity comes our way let's try to grab it because when we lose it, it won't come our way again.
