Courtship: How should it be?

The topic of discussion today is courtship and how it should be done. As a young lady, I will discuss briefly my understanding of the said word and also try to answer the questions that follow below. So let's look at them one after the other.

In your understanding how can you explain courtship to your friend?

In my understanding, courtship is a period where a man and a woman get to be in a relationship which helps them to know each other properly before going into marriage.

Marriage as we all know is a lifetime commitment hence to go into it you have to be certain that the person you are going into it with is someone you are ready to spend your whole life with.

So during courtship, you will be able to know the person's weaknesses and strengths and also you will check if you can deal with them or not. In summary, courtship helps you to understand your pattern more better.

Do you believe in courtship before marriage?

Yes, I believe 100% in courtship before marriage. As I have explained above, courtship before marriage helps you to know your spouse better and you will be able to know his or her weaknesses and strengths.

Marriages that last longer today are those that the spouse courted before they went into it. They knew each other and they saw that they can be able to tolerate each other before they went ahead to marry.

How many years should courtship last before marriage?

In my opinion, 2 years courtship is the best before marriage. Within 2 years, you should be able to know each other very well and to make your decision.

It may look too long but I believe it's not as long as the marriage itself. So the two years is good enough for both parties to study and know their selves properly.

Is courtship a guarantee for a successful marriage?

It's not a guarantee of a successful marriage but it plays a major role when it comes to helping a marriage to be successful. We all know that during the period of courtship, you will receive all the signals you may need to know about the man or the woman.

If you are careful and observant, you will be able to learn what the person can do and what he or she is not capable of doing. So that helps to keep marriage more than not going into it at all.

What is your say about sex during courtship? Is it a yes or No to you let's have your reasons.

Well, sex before marriage to me is a sin. In courtship though, you may need to know if the man you are in a relationship with can perform in bed.

This is important for every relationship because it will be a disaster to marry a man or a woman who can not satisfy each other in bed. So in my opinion, I suggest that sex be done in courtship after both parties have ascertained their medical fitness and they are sure they will end up together.

Any advice for those in courtship right now?

Yeah, to those in courtship, I urge you all to take more time to learn about each other. Don't be in a haste to go into the marriage. Marriage is a lifetime commitment hence you need to take your time.

So in summary I say try to know each other well and also see if you can be able to tolerate each other and forgive each other no matter the conditions. When you are convinced about that then you can go ahead and marry.
