Showcasing my country's food | Coconut Rottie
Hello Foodies,
Greetings for all food lovers over there and thank you @steem4nigeria for hosting this amazing contest for those who love cooking and eating... Being a citizen of Sri Lanka I'm proud to participate in this contest taking our authentic food culture to the world.
Are you one of those that love good food?
We Sri Lankans are keen on the nutritious value of our food as much as the taste. Each an every ingredient that we add to make our food exceptional have health benefits that are invaluable. So I'm also concerned on consuming good food and specially homemade ones because they are delighting and hygienic.
What country are you from and what type of food is predominant there ?
As I previously mentioned, I'm from Sri Lanka the country which is renowned for its authentic food culture. Here in Sri Lanka our staple food is rice and we consume it with cooked vegetables and fish/meat curries. Our food are well known for their taste of spices. We use our own spices to add flavours and a good odour for the dish. And many tourists visit Sri Lanka for the sole purpose of experiencing our food.
what's your favourite food found in your country
I love almost all the local cuisine that taste spicy. And among those one of my favourite is coconut rottie. This is one of the easy dishes that anyone can make with the ingredients that we can find at home. The basic ingredients that we need is flour, coconut, salt & water. Also this rottie can be customized according to your preference by adding some more ingredients as I do...
Let's see how I make it...
- Flour
- Scraped Coconut
- Butter
- Onion
- Carrot
- Green chilies
- Green leaves
- Salt & pepper
- First you have to add butter, carrot, onion, chilli, green leaves, salt and pepper to the scraped coconut.
- Then mix them well together and add flour to this mixture gradually.
- After that kneed the mixture well and make the dough as shown in the picture below.
- Then flatten the dough and get it fried using a pan
Here I have used a Kenda leaf for flattening and frying the rotties to make it more tasty. But even without Kenda/banana leaves you can directly put this dough in to the pan and get it fried.
Coconut Rottie is one of the famous food in Sri Lanka that is appreciated by may tourists visit Sri Lanka. We can eat this rottie alone or else taste it with a chilli sambol, fish curry, chicken curry or even with jam and butter.
You can try this at home easily share your experience with me in the comment section below... Hope you guys enjoyed our authentic Coconut Rotties, meet you soon with a new food recipe...
And I would like to conclude my participation for this contest by inviting @kusal, @dilums and @besticofinder to participate in this contest.
