Celebrando la Niñez // Coco by @kingporos // 20% Payout to Recreative Steem
Namaste/Hola #RecreativeSteem,
Children's films generally have a deeper inner meaning in them. It's a great initiative by Recreative Steem & @yrmaleza to organise this contest. This way we can revisit some old memories and learn from them too.
@nabanitad and I saw Lee Unkrichs Coco, I want to share my take from the movie. As she and I live 50KM apart we saw this movie via screenshare.
Family is the most important thing in the world, it's the first conclusion I came to after seeing Coco for the first time. I cried then. I still do! Every time. Although the plot of the film comes from another part of the world, it is still very attached to me and my upbringing. Family is the MOST IMPORTANT.
The film revolves around our main character Miguel who loves music in a music-hating family. His family has a reason too, Miguel's great-great-grandfather, left the family to pursue his dream of becoming a musician. After that, they distanced themselves from music.
On the Days of the Dead (Dia de Los Muertos), there is excitement throughout Santa Cecilia. Villagers put up ofrenda and offering candles, food, and flowers to their ancestors. Miguel's ancestors are also placed on ofrenda, on the top frame containing his great-grandmother Coco's and great-great-grandmother Mama Imeldas' photo, which he accidentally broke. Then he discovered that a there is masked part of the photo showed his great-great-grandfather holding Ernesto's famous guitar. For this reason, Miguel believes Ernesto De la Cruz is his great-great-grandfather.
Miguel decided to enter the music competition Dia de Los Muertos. To participate he needs a guitar so he goes to Ernesto de las Cruz's grave to borrow Ernesto's guitar. While Miguel upholds and strung the guitar, he suddenly finds himself in the land of the dead. Where he reunites with his deceased family members and with his great-great-grandmother, Mama Imelda. Mama Imelda was surprised and little angry too, she promises to give Miguel the blessing so that he can return to earth, on one condition, that Miguel has to give up his music.
Instead giving up his music, he would reach out to de la Cruz, asking him for the blessing he needed to get home. During Miguel's journey, he met Hector, who is a charming trickster in the Land of the Dead who helped him to reach de la Cruz, and only asked Miguel to bring his photo to his relatives so he could also visit earth. In various turns of events, Miguel learns that de la Cruz is a fraud and he is related to Hector, who is his great-great-grandfather.
The film is filled with humor, fear, optimism, empathy and sincerity. The characters in the film are dynamic. As the biggest Example: for the first half of the film Ernesto Dela Cruz's character seems like a good character but when it was revealed by Miguel's real grandfather that de la Cruz has stolen his songs and style to earn fame as a singer and even killed him, in a blink, the character became evil to the viewers.
Miguel's character is also very dynamic. He is portrayed as a stubborn, rebellious kid who hates his family but later when the story unfolds Miguel becomes a sincere, obedient, confident boy who loves his family and understands its worth.
Miguel's nanny's character, Coco is silent throughout the film but at the end when she sings a song from her memory with her father that gives resolution to all the plot points including, will Hector be forever gone? would Coco be able to remember her father? would Miguel be able to give justice to his great grandfather? etc. and all these are answered without any dialogue but a song.
A masterpiece film's signature it is. I loved it. We follow the journey of Miguel whose first only obstacle in the introduction part of the film seems to be his family but later after the climax, in the resolution part, family turns would out to be his biggest strength. This film is intended for kids and the storytelling is quite simple to let them understand the message of the film, family is the biggest strength of a human being. Through this story, I think the creators wanted kids to appreciate their families. We need to be good listeners to create a good family.
In every beat of my proud corazón...

Hi Nirmalya, Coco is one of my favorite children's movies because of its relevant family concept.
Although culturally and religiously it is different from my beliefs too, I really like the songs, its musicals and how funny it is. I saw it three times at the movies and every time it is shown on national TV I can't resist watching it again, especially the catchy musicals. Thank you very much for participating in the cinema-forum with @nabanitad.
Me too @graceleon, I have seen this movie more than 10 times. Each time I cry like baby 😶. It's truly a great musical! Soundtracks were awesome. I loved the Spanish rhythm.
Hello dear friend, how beautiful the review of the movie Coco. For me it is an extraordinary production that crosses cultural barriers, and shows us a little bit of the interesting Mexican history of the Day of the Dead. I really like to read you in our Cinema Forum. I send you a hug and I wish you every success. Until next time
Gracias @yrmaleza! It is a great movie indeed with greater inner meaning. Though it is a movie for the kids but adults can learn many things from it too.
