Over the years, civilization and modernizations have gradually taken over the world, hence the birth of Technology.

Before now, we lived in medieval times, where man had different attempts to create what looked like TECHNOLOGY to ease himself in certain areas of life and to carry out daily activities e.g, the Abacus machine for counting.

Presently, we can say that the birth of Technology can be said to have had both positive and negative effects with particular attention on kids.

Technology Defined

Technology is the scientific use of skills and, techniques to make work more easier and life more productive.
In a simplified term, technology can be said to be machinery through which innovative tools are created.

A look at Technology's Impact in The 21st Century

Technology has manipulated the human environment, in every phase of life, we can say that we use it in our routine activities to harness and make life easy, in agriculture, education, Entrepreneurial, oil and gas, health, etc.

The use of technology is deployed in all these sectors of life to drive and achieve certain organizational aims and objectives. In advanced countries of the world, it has served as a lynchpin, to which the country's economic and political drives reside. Generally, the use of technology can be said to have had both positive and negative effects on society.

The positivity and negativity of technology on kids

Children as the bedrock of every Nation, have been exposed in recent times and given a firm foundation to the knowledge of technology through their daily activities and in the quest to make life better.

On the Positive end, technology as one of the key fundamental to child upbringing gives an important base to which kids learn and adopt certain acceptable societal principles and educational ethics.

To this effect, the following can be outlined as some of the positive effects of technology on kids.

• It has enhanced learning in the classroom and at home.

• It has paved the way for Socialization and relationship building.

• Problem solving and perseverance

• Safeguard Empowerment and Independence.

• It builds an Entrepreneurial spirit.

However, as it is with everything positive, there is also a negative end.

This follows suit in our article to look at technology as a masterpiece in today's society.

The negative effect of technology on kids can not be swept under the carpet, as it has given room to too much exposure and brought to light certain discoveries to which the feeble minds have taken and misinterpreted, most times acted.

Many times, we have had cases of kids involved in Pornographic and illicit sex and drug materials through the consistent use of mobile phones which is one of the agents of technology.

The following are the negative effects of technology on kids;

• Failing grades in academics
• Social interaction problems
• Lack of privacy of insensitive materials.
• Lack of sleep and cyberbullying.
• Increased depression rate when not given a space to access it.
• Decrease in communication and intimacy with parents or formators.
• Highly obsessive. etc

The use of technology can cause social and behavioral problems in kids because it reduces the number of times, children spend and interact with others.

It is pertinent that parents and older adults mentor a child's use of social media and the type of websites they visit while surfing the nets and the games played therein too.

If these excesses are not properly checked, it can lead to more children being socially awkward, withdrawn, shy, or intimidated by social situations.

The Impact of Technology In Kid's Life, Highly Positive Or Negative?

Having looked at it from both sides personally, there is still a fine line between the benefits of technology and its negatives.

The impact it has on kids can be said to be highly negative in our today's world. parents while growing up did not have enough technological machinery and they had learned and were schooled to do things in the spirit and mannerism.

But today, with the evolution of technology, life has been thrown at ease for the younger generation and everything negative has been made accessible to children. In our homes, certain things are being introduced to do certain tasks e.g the washing machines.

kids are no longer trained to be resilient and to take up responsibilities of doing their own things by themselves.

Even in our educational sectors, the use of calculators can be said to be on the negative side of technology as it reduces the ability of a child to have a calculative ability and the speed of thinking and running simple arithmetics faster.

With the birth of technology, illicit and pornographic materials have become accessible and normality for kids when not being monitored by an adult.

These and many more have impacted kids negatively and have subjected them to a dependent and lazy lifestyle.

Can you have control over the exposure of kids to certain technological materials?

Kids are lesser humans, very vulnerable, fast in learning, and adaptable.

Parents, teachers, and older siblings or adults at large, as agents of growth or formation, have a given responsibility to see to the fact that, kids are being mentored as to their exposure to certain technological materials, given the fact that they are superior and have had a larger experience in life than kids.

At home, parents have a vital role to play in the development of their children by checkmating and regulating times for TV and the particular channels kids are being exposed to.

---

Also, they're to ensure that phones are being given to kids at an acceptable age of accountability with certain restricted features, to monitor their activities.

---

Even within the neighborhood, they should be placed on the watch as to their relationship with other kids, and what they say and do. When a child is being placed on the watch, the risks of being exposed to illicit technological materials will be reduced.

In the school, teachers are saddled with the responsibility of also indoctrinating kids with the right types of values and attitudes, as already handed by parents at home.

churches/Mosques are not exemptions, they can help by creating kid-friendly activities. collectively, we own a shared responsibility as individuals to see that kids around us, are being mentored on the use of technology with particular attention to certain technological materials.

This will minimize their exposure to certain technological materials at a tender age, as we have looked at its negative effects on kids. By so doing, they'd be given responsible training with good morals and the society will be a better place.
