What is a family?

mine.PNG

A family is a group of people living in one and sharing an emotional bond between them, these are people who feel you with positive energy that always motivates you. A family is linked not only by blood but by the greatest of compassion, love, and support.

Family, interchangeable for trust, solace, devotion, affection, care, happiness and belonging is a connection we share from the point we are born into this world till we depart. The people who take good care of us, help us to succeed in life and become lifelines for us to live our lives are who we call family. A family are those people that make us feel safer and more livable, our lives would be meaningless without our families.

mine.PNG

There are different kinds of marriage acknowledged under Nigerian law. Practically, there are four major types of marriage conducted in Nigeria which are
• customary/traditional marriage,
• Statutory marriage,
• church marriage and
• Islamic marriage.

Describe the major differences between the types of marriages mentioned above.

All the types of marriages mentioned above can be divided into the following groups.

1. TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE
Traditional marriage is a union between a male and a female under traditional laws usually involving 2 families. Due to the different cultures in Nigeria, customary marriages are conducted differently according to the custom of the people. Core traits of customary marriage include:

• Parental approval, Approval of the parties to the marriage and Age,
• Bride price or possibly dowry and
• Number of wives one can marry

2. STATUTORY MARRIAGE
Statutory marriage also known as registry marriage is a volitional union in the life of a male and a female in line with the laws of the state. That is, it is a monogamous marriage setup of one wife and one husband according to the rules and regulations of marriage in a state. Such marriages are marriages done at the Court Registry and in a licensed place of worship (court marriage and church marriage).

Regardless, it is a common pattern that couples may perform at least 3 types of marriage together, especially for those in Christendom here in nigeria.

1. SOURCE OF LEARNING
Families serve as the first institution of learning in anyone's life. Over our lives, the family teaches us useful life lessons and prepares us for maturity. They play a vital role in keeping decree, discipline, and harmony in society. We learn how to associate with others from our family members from childhood.

2. SUPPORT SYSTEM
The family support system to its members in times of trouble. There is no stronger bond than the bond between relatives. Your family will always be by your side no matter what life throws at you, they are the rocks you rely on, the people who support you. It is the joy of living together that has led to family delight and happiness.

3. SERVE AS CONFIDENCE BOASTER
Being together as a family builds morale for all of its members. It teaches kids to build self-esteem through detailed skills such as problem-solving and communication. Helping them model the capacity to love themselves without degrading others.

4. BRINGS PROTECTION
It provides an avenue for the older members of the family, mainly the parents to protect their kids and other members of the household from danger.

5. BRINGS ABOUT HAPPINESS AND UNITY
The Family displays love and affection which in turn will provide happiness for the members of the family. Which encourages the spirit of unity among family members. Helping them to see themselves as one entity.

Is a house help a member of a family? Explain

mine.PNG

While a house help isn't technically a blood relative, it's a big Yes for me, after all, adopted children aren't blood-related either, it all matters to how you bond with each other. They sometimes spend more hours with the kids in a family where both parents are engaged in white-collar jobs. So treating them as one will only improve the oneness in the house.
