Overpopulated or underpopulated, which one is better?

INTRODUCTION

Looking around our environments, we see living creatures of different kinds that make the environment, which ultimately makes the community, Hence, the number of these various items makes their various populations.

What is Population?

---

Population refers to the total number of people or particular species in a specific area or place. It is the estimate of the number of people and how to react consequently in an environment. For example, the total number of people, animals, or certain plants in a particular environment such as a village, town, city, or country.

Hence, we can say the population of Nigeria is the number of people (male, female, old, and young) that occupy the landmarks of Nigeria.

Basic Units Of Population

The fundamental unit of the population worldwide is the Family. A family is a group of people connected by blood, marriage, or adoption living together and sharing common resources. It is the coming together of different family groups that form the community. However, families made up of different classes of citizens, which includes;

Gender: This refers to the gender of the members of the family, usually male and female.

Dependants: This refers to those members of the family that depends on others, such as infants, toddlers, teenagers, and the aged (people of 65 and above)

Independent/Working class: This refers to those who tend to provide for their needs and the needs of the family, usually known as the workforce of the population, such as those aged between the age of 25 to 65 years.

State Five Factors, You Think Affect Population Growth In Your Country

The growth of a population does have certain effects on every society, and this growth can be upward or downward. Hence, a population can be affected by the following;

BIRTH RATE: Is the rate at which a person or a population reproduces offspring.

MORTALITY RATE: The mortality rate refers to the rate of deaths in a given population, that's how long/short people live.

NUPTIALITY: Nuptiality, on the other hand, refers to the number of marriages recorded in a given population. The sole aim of every marriage is to have kids, therefore, marriage can lead to an increase in the birth rate.

IMMIGRATION: Immigration is the act of moving out of your country to a foreign to live permanently. Hence, reducing the population of the local country and increasing that of the foreign.

WAR: War is a violation of human peaceful existence, hence no one wants to live in a Warzone, as it also increases the mortality rate.

These factors affect the population of any geolocation, if the inflow is higher than the downflow, the population will increase causing Overpopulation, and if the downflow is higher than the inflow, the population will reduce causing Underpopulation. But, if the inflow and downflow rates are in equilibrium, the population remains stable.

What Are The Possible Problems Of Overpopulation?

Overpopulation is the situation where the total population in a particular area is contending with the available resources in the area. I.e., a situation where people are more than the available resources to care for their needs. It can also be explained as having fewer resources to feed more mouths. Therefore, Overpopulation can lead to the following problems.

1. UNEMPLOYMENT: When the population is higher than the existing resources and jobs due to overpopulation, many stay unemployed as they find more and more people applying for the same jobs. It's likened to having 4 employment slots receiving 50-80 applications.

2. HIGH CRIME RATE: Crimes such as robbery, prostitution, kidnapping, human trafficking, vandalism, etc increases due to overpopulation as they find ways to live.

3. MIGRATION: This involves leaving their home countries, towns, or villages in search of greener pastures and better life.

4. LOST OF RESOURCES: Natural resources such as farmlands, trees, and wildlife are lost in the bit to accommodate building structures for shelter.

5. SPREADING OF DISEASES: Communicable diseases can easily be spread across one another due to overpopulation.

Explain At Least Three Ways In Which The Population Can Be Controlled

When these factors that affect the growth of population size are not put in check, then, a population can grow beyond its available resources. Therefore, below are but a few ways we can control population growth;

1. FAMILY PLANNING/BIRTH CONTROL: Family planning or Birth control actions are those actions carried out to control population growth. Practices such as child spacing, abstinence, use of contraceptives such as condoms, etc.

2. EDUCATION: Educating the public about the adverse effects of population brings refinement as people get to understand the consequences of overpopulation and how to control or mitigate it.

3. GOVERNMENT LAWS: Governments should put together laws stopping individuals from giving birth to more than a precise number of children.

4. DISCOURAGING EARLY MARRIAGE: We should endeavor to avoid the practice of early marriage as with early marriage comes enough time to have as many kids as much as one can want.

5. ENCOURAGING MONOGAMY: With the practice of monogamy, we can reduce the birth rate as it is just one man and wife, compared to polygamy where he can have as many wives he desires which will lead to having many kids as every wife would want one for herself.

No, I don't know the population of Steemit users since the Steemit platform has so many users signing up every second, and there is currently no means I could know the actual value, therefore, I can only estimate, and my estimated number of Steemit users is approximately over 5 million, with the active users ranging between 100's of thousands.

Overpopulated Or Underpopulated Which One Is Better?

Since with Overpopulation, the resources are unavailable, I would say I prefer underpopulation as it means we would be having excess resources for the population, thus, allowing the population to utilize its resources more efficiently and to the satisfaction of all population with probably more to save. Although, with excess, also comes wastage, I would rather have more than less so Underpopulation it is.

CONCLUSION

An ever-growing population is a serious concern worldwide. While the government and citizens are trying the best possible ways to control population growth, these seem to be ineffective. If this continues, in the long run, life, in general, will not survive the consequences. I invite @yakspeace, @edidiongeffiong and @abdullahw2.
