Wednesday – I spy with my little eye – Mini contest (88)

in Steem Kids & Parents2 months ago

Hello SteemKids and Parents!

I cannot wait to tell you what the word was this week!

But first, let’s take a last look at last week’s clues.

1. It is a 13-letter word starting with “O”
2. It copies something and
3. it captures something
4. It can have a dramatic effect

And the word is... “ONOMATOPOEIAS!”

Vocabulary.com tells us the following about “ONOMATOPOEIAS.”

In Greek, onomatopoeia (on-uh-mah-tuh-PEE-ah) simply means "word-making," but in English it refers to a very specific process of word-making: an attempt to capture the sound of something. Examples of onomatopoeia in English include burble, buzz, slosh, ratatat, and thud.

Onomatopoeias that we learn from a young age are: meow, roar, oink, and chirp. As we grow older, there are a few new ones we add: boom, splash, crash, and poof!

Back to the clues:

  1. It copies something.
  2. It captures the sound.
  3. And it can, for sure, have a dramatic effect

That, kids and parents, is how we all learn the English language. Tsk..tsk!

For the first time in 87 weeks for the fourth week in a row, there is no winner!

That brings the prize for this week to 8 STEEM

Time for your next game!

The game is exactly like last week;

The game “I spy with my little eye” is sort of a detective game. The “spy” is the person who sees something, and the rest of the players must then guess what the spy is seeing.

Of importance, it must be something that you can see and not something you can feel, like an emotion.

BUT, “I spy with my little eye” is so much more than just a spy game;

  • It is a thinking game
  • It teaches you how to use your logic and reasoning and
  • It grows your vocabulary

The contest

For today, I am going to give you the letter with which the word starts plus 4 points, or “clues,” that you can take into consideration to figure out what the word can be.

Ready or not… let’s learn, play, and win!

I spy with my little eye something that begins with the letter “B"

1. It is a 12-letter word
2. It is a hyphenated adjective
3. The ring happens at the end
4. It can be applicable to an item or a person

How to participate?

  • You can reply to this post by posting your word, or you can write an article about your word
  • You can only enter once

What is up for grabs?

The first correct answer will take home 8 STEEM this week.

The word and the winner will be announced next week on Wednesday; therefore, make sure you don't send in your answer later than Tuesday 23:59 UTC.

If there is no winner, the prize will carry over until there is one.

Until next week, keep guessing!

Sort:

Except for: miauw - woef - toktoktoook - kukelekuuu, knorknor (sounds animals make) and 'auw' there are no such words I learned as a child, same for my children.

A part of what you mentioned sounds more like 'comic language' to me which were not considered books and forbidden.

My English isn't good enough to understand the explanation but I kind of have the idea (a word that describes a sound). I doubt I will ever remember it.

☹️
I guess this means I learned nothing

Good luck with the contest.

P.s. I asked the kid again she says the Japanese language uses it way more than we do.

Thank you! ☕
