INTRODUCTION

We mostly see flowers as those parts of plants that looks beautiful and lovely. But there is more to flowers than the beauty and fragrance we see and perceive respectively. Flowers are reproductive systems that ensures that flowering plants are reproduced. Flowers are of those ways in which flowering plants reproduce. Humans appreciate flowers for the fragrance and beauty. This post portrays flowers that are planted in Nigeria which are not just beautiful alone but have economic importances.

1. Bougainvillea Flower

The first time I heard of this name, Bougainvillea, was in a class while reading a text with my students. I and my students were unable to pronounce this long name. And rightly so, the transcription in the dictionary was different from the way we pronounced it at first.

Bougainvillea is an ornamental plant full with thorns. They are known for its wonderful colours which includes pink, shade of red and purple. This flowers are mostly given as gifts because of its mild and beautiful nature. It symbolises passion, elegance and beauty. One more reason I love this flower would be because of its pink colour.

The following are uses of bougainvillea

• Since it is primarily an ornamental plant, it is used in decoration.

• It could be sold for money

• It has medicinal values, of which when taken into the body can cure ailments like sore throat.

• It could be used as a cover plant

2. Cora White Vinca Flower

The Cora White Vinca Flower which is also known as Catharanthus roseus is a white flower that is star shaped. This flower loves the sun and adds more beauty and colour to the environment. There are other species of the Vinca Flower, some of which have pink colours, purple colours etc.

It is mostly used for garden purposes as ornamental plants

They are poisonous to humans and should not be taken into the body

They could be used for interior decoration too.

3. Crown of Thorns Flower

The crown of thorns which is also called Christ thorn or Christ plant is a plant with very small flowers which are known to be very beautiful.
It is known to be poisonous to some animals and it is an irritant to humans. The flower has the following colours, red, lilac pink etc.

It has economic importance in wild life as it could be use as a pest control.

It is used to beautify the environment also.
