SEC 17 WK #4 : the effect of hardship on families
Source
Greetings to everyone
I welcome you all to my blog and I have come to take part in this week engagement challenge titled the effect of hardship on families. Much thanks to @steemkidss for organizing such a wonderful contest.
Last week when I was on the bus a father of three children lamented to me how things has become miserable and unbearable for him as a result of the economic situation. He explained to me how he barely performs His duties as a responsible father and a husband to his wife and children. He claimed that things in business were no longer booming and flourishing as usually. While he told me his story I felt pity for him because it wasn't his fault but the economic situation of Nigeria. Providing food in Nigeria is no longer a simple task to perform, providing three square meal a day has become a mirage for many families due to to high cost of living. My mother who sells clothes and clothing materials also told me that things are no longer going as it used to be that she barely makes any sales in a day and the truth is that their is hunger in the land and its only those who have fed themselves enough would consider even buying clothes.

Last Friday afternoon, I was on the road going to an errand my mom sent me, I met a boy probably six to seven years old slim and dry begging me for money to eat. When he approached me and asked me for the money I curiously asked him of his parents, he told me that his single mom had gone out for some days as there is nothing to eat at home. Out of pity for me I dipped my hands into my pocket and gave him N200 and he left happy, I am no stranger to this ugly situation, I have been a victim of hunger before because of this economic situation. I could eat twice or three times daily before, but these days I can only afford one square meal each day, no thanks to the high cost of living in Nigeria.
Families are suffering and there is a ravaging hunger in the land making people angry at the government and its action. Families who could afford three square meals daily could no longer do so because the prices of every commodity has skyrocketed in the markets including sachet of water, biscuits and many more. The prices of goods has multiplied incredibly and most families may not be able to afford them.
Both private and public schools fees has been outrageously increased. Despite the low usage of power supply electricity bills still increase and has gone up. Drugs and medical help has now become out of the reach of the poor as the cost for drugs are also been increased. The reality in ground is very terrible and heart breaking and the government needs to do something about it and act assiduously.
I understand that they are some measure that the government has tried to use to alleviate the suffering, but how effective have they been ? From food palliative to transferring money, how has any helped positively remove the hardship ? How many people can the government boost about that has benefited from those policies up till now. Since it is impossible for the government to fix the prices of commodity in markets. It is better for them to look for another alternative. Alternative like the provision of social amenities, free access to health care system, reducing the bill of electricity supply and subsiding public transport, along with basic and tertiary education. These are ways in which the hardship in Nigeria can be reduced on citizens and families.
In conclusion, Nigeria economy is dwindling as a result of devaluation in naira and corruption in the government. The growth of our naira is in the hands of Nigerians and the government by patronizing Nigerians products but the corruption in government is become alarming, instead of solving Nigerian problems you see politician in government buying SUVs and Prado jeeps wasting our money on their selfish desires. To make Nigeria better again we must push out corruption from our system and try to fix our refinery so as to reduce the cost of fuel which in turn makes transport more cheaper for Nigerians. I remember, as a kid, I wanted to go on a hunger strike to raise money for the hungry people of Ethopia. The rest of Africa was booming!
I look at Africa now, and I get sad. There is hunger everywhere. As I told a couple of Steemians a couple of weeks ago, they were showing Nigerians fighting over food on our local news.
I am afraid, unless something drastic happens, I cannot see how we are going to win the race.
Best wishes!
Thank you for your time on my post, the hardship in Nigeria is getting worst by the day and its really troubling, i wish our government can do something reasonable to eradicate this social problem
Just keep on praying! 🙏

The person is not begging because he loves it, but because of the economic crises and hardships. If we overcome it, then we would also overcome the number of beggars, also I've seen many beggars who seem to treat begging as their profession.
Beggars beg because of hunger and poverty and the situation of thus country is not favourable to some. If only we could find a way to eradicate this hardship, thanks for the comment i really appreciate
@hayleydemi Your post sheds light on the harsh realities many families face in Nigeria due to economic challenges. Its heartbreaking to hear about the struggles of parents unable to provide for their children and the hunger gripping the land. Your call for government action is vital. Good luck with the contest
Thanks for your wonderful comment on my post. Government should really do something about it cause it getting out of hand, i also wish you all the best in your entry
Thank you for participating in the Steemit Engagement Challenge Season 17 in the Steem kids and parents Community.
You have expressed your views on this topic beautifully. Due to rising inflation, it is becoming very difficult to buy essential items. The main reason for this is the lack of good education. Educated youth are unemployed. There is no provision for jobs.
Thank you for such a wonderful review on my post, all what you have said is true ma. Thanks once again
Greeting friend @hayleydemi, You mentioned that when you were on the bus last week, the father of three lamented to you how the economic situation had made things miserable and unbearable for him. You also said that then he explained to you how he does not fulfill his duties as a responsible father and husband to his wife and children which is quite sad. He also claimed to you that business things are no longer growing as normal and the business is not thriving which is quite sad. I appreciate your presentation.

You have simply shared the scenario in Nigeria. The present economic situation isn't a palatable one anyone could neglect. The spike in inflationary rates has triggered the cost of affording food commodities. We have too much money chasing fewer commodities.
The worst is that all human basic needs are affected. We shouldn't be too comfortable with this situation as we expect the government to continuously intervene to advert possible mental and psychological breakdowns. Their effects we don't want to witness. Success
Thank you for your wonderful view about my post and i appreciate it but i don't think the government is planning anytime from now to eradicate this problem, many Nigerians have accepted the fact that things are cost in the market and as such even if the prices of items goes down the seller will still sell at a higher price. Success in your entry my friend
This is majority of the citizens mentality and new normal that government cannot help in situations like this. Government has always failed to live up to expectations and they should be held accouhtable if we all standup. Anyway, the citizens are even tired to standup to the government. Thanks for engaging...

@hayleydemi
I read all of your stories and I was very saddened by how forced people have become, and when I heard the story that you told in the very beginning, I was very saddened that a father would eat his fries. He could not be a good gardener and he could not be a good husband and he had to do a lot of work to support his expenses and when he told you so much responsibility and his and everything. I can understand what kind of feeling it would be and these days little children are begging everywhere and they have no home. It's sad that it will be someone's child too and you did a great job by giving him money and it makes me feel better to see that you have a feeling for the poor and you help them and that is a pity for the child. If he had been born in a rich family, he would have lived a good life.
Thank you for your wonderful comment on my post and taking your time to read through my post. My stories are just small compare to what people suffer in this country, it is very sad seeing the poor suffer and i really wish i could do something to help them because some of them don't deserve it. Thanks once again for stopping by and success in your entry
Your thoughts are very good and I am very happy to see that you are a good person and I will always stand by you and you have made a very good post.
Brother in India, I am not saying that economy is really bad but here many poor people don't have proper source of income, proper food. Many children wander here and there for foods. Education system is really bad because in government school, there is no study and in private school fees are really high which can not afford by medium class people. Hope our government would read this contest and read every entries and think over it
