My Dreams as a Child

When I was little, I dreamt of so many things I'd like to become in life, I mean numerous things from being a Medical doctor to an Engineer and so on. The first time I made my dream known to the public on what I actually wanted to become in the future was during my 10th birthday in Junior secondary school when asked amidst celebration what I would like to become in the future, I replied "An Automotive Engineer".

What was behind my choice of Automotive engineering? It all come from my passion for cars back in the days, I don't just love cars but also want to be a part of the processes that would be releasing new cars to our society and then I also hoped I would become a car dealer, hmm! even I owned no car at the moment, I guess things changed.

As I was growing up, things were not going well in the country and financial instability is one of the notable problems which opened my thinking to different aspects of life where I can easily tap in. I identified that Nigeria has a lot of natural blessings like good weather conditions, fertile lands, and so on, I felt why can't I venture into agriculture but modernized type.

Considering the situation of things, I resolved to becoming an Agricultural engineer, this is the reason why I studied Agricultural engineering in my first degree. I love playing football a lot and singing/listening to music is my passion as such I draw a plan that I wanted to be 3 in 1 professional, Agricultural Engineer, Footballer and a Musician. That's funny, right? 😊 You will get to know what I have achieved so far as I proceed in this context.

Who supported me in my Dreams?

The answer to this is straightforward. All I see is Mom and Dad, these are the people I have and they have always been contributing to my dreams. I was given the best education they could afford and sponsored me to maybe the best schools in our locality back then.

For my pursuit towards becoming an Agricultural engineer, they supported it, well dad is an Agriculturist, I guess he must be happy his son in bringing in technology to agriculture in the family. My Parents also identified my passion for football and music, and they have adequately supported the move.

I enjoyed the freedom to participate in football games at will and received football accessories like the soccer boot, wears, chin guards, and so on, from my parents as gifts and this enhanced my skill of playing soccer. As regards music, they bought sound systems for me which improved me in some ways and mom would be there to listen to me whenever I am freestyling during those days. My parents were there for me.

The Dreams I have Achieved

As far as the 3 professions I have listed earlier are concerned, I have only achieved one which is becoming an Agricultural engineer. I got admitted to my state's technology university 10 years ago where I studied Agricultural engineering. My years at the university were great, I have the opportunity to study how agriculture can be made better with applied technology, for example, farm mechanization, irrigation engineering, food processing, farm electrification and so on.

I developed an interest in the food processing elective of agricultural engineering and this enabled me to undergo some months of industrial training in a food processing machines' fabrication company where I learned the processes involved in building food processing machines from scratch using different types of materials, stainless steel, galvanized steel, alloy steel and so on, the processes of machining parts (for machines), bending/forging metals, welding and so on.

The pictures above are some of the food processing machines I have been involved in their fabrications and the images were captured in 2017. I was rated as one of the fast-learning Industrial Training students in the firm then, out of many from different institutions.

That's one of my mates above during the Industrial training days, she's Blessing by name and she was an Electrical and Electronics Engineering student back then. I have others I don't have their pictures any longer. I graduated with honors from the university and I can say that's a huge achievement for me.

During the Service year

After my years of study, I served Nigeria under the National Youth Service Corps program, this is a year of compulsory service to the fatherland. I was deployed to the Ministry of Agriculture, the state secretariat, Osun state Nigeria, and that was the beginning of my residency in the state. Though I am not a practicing Agricultural Engineer at the moment, I have plans to establish myself sooner in the future and solve certain agricultural problems in Nigeria and the world at large.

The Dreams I have not Achieved and What went Wrong

Quite obviously, I have not achieved the other two dreams which are becoming a professional footballer and musician, these are the things I only do for fun now and not professionally. I can point at a few things that went wrong in the process.

  • The first thing was my academic pursuit, I wanted to give my study the best attention to acquire solid knowledge in the field and as well graduate with good grades, but this took away some of my concentration in football and music.

  • I joined the university's football team during my second year, left classes for the training sessions on several occasions, and in the process, I missed some continuous assessments that affected my grades, as such I gave my study the best attention I could from that time.

  • The hurdles of life, I can remember at some point there were times I made myself available for football but I have no proper accessories to be utilized which affected my playing style and makes me a bit irrelevant on the pitch a few times.

  • Lack of focus, it was after my university education I realized that I still had the chance to come up with a proper plan back in the days to manage my passion for football and music without affecting my study.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I have just shared with you my journey while I was growing up, the change of dreams, the ones I have been able to achieve, and others that I haven't. My recommendation for you from my little experience is to keep the focus, don't give excuses for quitting, I made mistakes in the process which I regretted.

No matter what, keep pushing and keep believing. I hope you had a great time reading from me today. Thank you. I hereby invite @edlili24, @olabillions and @carlaisl to participate in the ongoing contest.

This is so wonderful to see that you were in love with motor mechanic activities and that is to say that you also had a dream of releasing cars at your time
It also quite amazing to see that you are able to have other lot of dream such as agricultural engineering, football and also a musician hmmm but I must say you were involved in lot of church activities that has to do with singing.
Also for the thefact that your parents especially your dad and your mom really fought so had to see that you succeeded in your education and am sure the are proud to welcome an agricultural engineer back at home

Thanks for the time spared to read through my entry today and I'm glad you can relate to the good side of the achieved dream.

In fact, the dreams that we have in childhood are often unfulfilled. But then our dreams change a lot, like you dreamed as a child that you will become an automotive engineer. But now you dream of being a footballer, musician and agricultural engineer. It's good that you have dreams and your parents are helping you a lot to make your dreams come true. This is actually supposed to happen because our parents help us naturally.

You are quite right, playing football for me now is just for the pleasure of the game. Energy would be channeled into achieving sustainable agriculture in my community. Thanks for your comment on this.

I most year that the both of us had the same dreams during childhood but sometimes life doesn't go the way we plan and dreams. Indeed I am happy that you are now a graduate which is the first step of you achieving whatever you wish in life. Best of luck to you.

Oh my, you don't look much like someone who wants to become a musician haha,

I know your passion for football, I read about them in your diary.

You had good dreams bro, it is interesting to read about your childhood dream, I love soccer too, I played for a team for year I just never wanted to waste my time In a career that is not certain, I see a lot of players who had invested much but couldn't achieve the professional level, Nigeria is a dream killer you know bro.

Am well familiar with some of these food processing machines, some years ago there was a firm that produces fried cassava and through them I was opportune to learn some basics about the use of the machine. Being an agriculturist is underrated but it's like of the most inevitable profession we can't do without.

Glad to know you were able to achieve your dream as an agricultural engineer.
Thanks for your invite

Oops! He said I don't look like someone who wanted to become a musician 😆 😆. You perfectly understand why I slowed down my concentration on football back then, a lot of talents couldn't pull through, I don't wanna lose much as such I gave my studying the best I could.

I'm glad you can relate to some of the machines in this piece, mechanization is gradually taking its place in the farming system here in Nigeria. I appreciate your time on this.

You are welcome
