Steeming Community Contest: My Experience With Covid19 - by @hae-ra

Covid19 is really hard to beat. But we just have to face it no matter what. And I hope we are all doing great here despite what's happening right now.

Today, let me share with you my experience with covid19.

This happened last June 02-05, 2021. When one of my co-tenant here in boarding house has been a positive with covid-19. But before this happened, she's supposed to tell us first because we're just one household but she did not say even a bit.

The story goes like this: Because she's about to return home that badly, she took a swab test because their province is very strict with the compliance for the negative result of the swab test since their province is one of the watch list for covid due to a high population suspected for such virus. Right after her test, she was being informed right away of her status about the result. But she did not even told us a single thing regarding this matter, not until the other tenant heard them talking with her sister about this covid19 result thingy. So, all of us were alarmed that night (of July 02). Because it was our very first time to experience such thing. And the patient here was so energetic, like how it came to the point like that? She did not even show a single sign for being a suspected one. Asymptomatic as what they said. We were so depressed, could not able to sleep even a wink. The following day (as of July 03) , the barangay health workers together with the DOH representatives visited the covid patient here. They discussed of what should be done and all. But after their long talks, we thought that it would be okay and no problem anymore along with us. We thought that she would be the only one, and no other would compromise anymore. By the afternoon on the same day, she was told to be in quarantine center. And we thought that everything was fall into place already. But the following day after that (July 04), they came back here and brought everything, the contact tracer, the swabber, and all the things needed with them for the swab test. So we were in so much shock. Like is this for real? How come? They did not even told us or informed us that we also had to go through such swab test thingy. And because of that, we had a commotion with them, since we did not agree of what they told us. We fought for it. It's not because we don't want it, but we were just disappointed by their actions and the way the approached us. We argued with them. Because how come they would give us swab test, that they did not even check and swabbed with the direct contact of the patient. This was our main concern regarding that. We were arguing for I think more than an hour. We were so disappointed that they told us to just follow the protocols, where in fact they just let the covid patient walked going to the barangay, to ride the ambulance, like are they for sure knew the certain protocols? She's supposed to be pick up by the ambulance door to door going to the quarantine center. So how could they say that they even followed that certain protocol? Even though it's the patient's request, but if we say protocol, it is still not allowed. Because of what I told them, they were really angry and one of them shouted, like an uneducated person. This time, they told us that they would bring policemen and back ups by the following day because we were so hard to convinced.

On the next day (July 05), so early in the morning, they came back and brought firemen with them. It's just like, hey, are we on shooting here? And another commotion happened that time. We were also explaining for our sides. Why we reacted like that, and why it became like that. All we wanted was to also for them to approach with the direct contact of the patient, but it's like they're not doing the due process with it, as long as they could get any swab tests from us. We were really the witness of it, but we could not do anything, and just let it be.

Apparently, we felt bad for the patient. Because she had to be quarantined within 10 days that time, (usually, it's 14 days as they said, but her case was just asymptomatic that's why it's just 10 days). It was so heartbreaking to see her struggling inside the quarantine area, with no ones taking care for her from her family or any friends, because it is strictly prohibited. But she had to be strong for the sake of her health and for the kids. We are still thankful that it was just like that and it's not too much.

To avoid contacts of this virus, we always do safety measures, like disinfecting, washing hands properly, proper hygiene and everything that must be done. And besides doing the security measures, I drink 1 glass of hot water once every morning and I take Iron and Vitamin C capsule once a day after breakfast. I just chose the non-acidic ones since I had gastro condition history. Eating a lot of healthy foods is one of my ways to prevent diseases. By doing this, it can already help boost my immune system.

We don't know what the future holds but let's just stay safe and be positive no matter what the circumstances it could be. Let's not give up, but instead, we have to fight for it and face all the challenges it would take. Life is so precious after all. We can not predict what might happen, but despite what we are facing right now, it is our challenge on how to handle the difficulties. We can do it, and just have faith in Almighty.

I hope you learned something here. Thank you so much for your time. Stay safe and healthy everyone.

What a terrible situation they had to live because of this virus. But good that they were able to get over it soon. Thank you for your advice to prevent the virus, at this point in the pandemic the key is precisely prevention. Thanks for participating
