Karachi, the city of lights. Not so bright these days. Or should I say for the past 20 years we haven't seen peace in this city? Sure, we've had some good days, we've had bad days but if we were to compare both the bad days would win by a huge margin.

Karachi, where millions of people come every year in search of jobs and livelihood. Millions of people come yet they never own it as their own. Karachi is like that step of the ladder that you climb to get to success. Once You've achieved what you wanted, you don't turn back to look at what happened to that step. You disregard the ladder and move on with your success. Karachi is similar to that ladder. People ignore it like they ignore that step. It faces all the wear and tear yet it never turns down its people.

Karachi, where every political party runs its agenda, every friggin year, every election, all the time but never work towards the betterment of this city. Never focus on the Felicity of this city. We haven't had any prosperous years lately. Or should I say ever? After every four years, we see thousands of posters on the streets of Karachi, thousands of them hanging on every corner of the street, spreading the agenda of different political parties. We see campaigns running around in Karachi with all the prominent political leaders standing tall on the stages, making fake promises to the wretched people of this rotten city. I witness millions of people getting conned again and again by these leaders during every election campaign. Sometimes I think to myself, are these people really halfwits, or do they just don't care about this city?

Karachi, where you move into a house and you get absolutely nothing except for four walls. No water. You got to pay to thetanker mafia to get access to one of the most basic necessities of human life. No electricity. No gas, nothing. You have gotta pay for everything separately and pay the bills for absolutely nothing as well.

I think all the aforementioned tragedies, we can put up with but when it comes to fearing your life, I believe no parent in this world would want his/her child to grow up in Karachi.

Where you buy a car and you spend the rest of your nights in anxiety and agony. What if someone steals the side mirrors? What if someone breaks into my car? What if I wake up in the morning and there's no car?

Where you buy a phone which you can't take out of your house. You're in so much fear and stress that you can't even take your phone out at night, in broad daylight, or at any time of the day without having the fear of it getting stolen. Can you imagine this? I am talking about the BIGGEST METROPOLITAN CITY OF PAKISTAN.

Where you can't take out cash from an ATM without Double checking to see if there's someone around or not. The stress is unreal, the trauma is unreal, the anxiety is unreal. My dad asks me to take my brother along whenever I am going out to an ATM to get some cash. What sort of city is this?

Where you can't have your work done in Government institutions without bribing the individuals. You have to get some legal work done but no, the work won't proceed until and unless you bribe the officials. What sort of system is this I ask.

We're only 2 months into 2022, and there are already 11,000 robberies reported in Karachi already. Some have been caught on the CCTV cameras, some not. But what's the thing common in both of these types of robberies? No robber was caught. Amazing, isn't it?

Snatching in Gulshan e Iqbal, Karachi

These are a few of the many robberies that have taken place in the past 50 days. Where's the Police, you might ask? I am quite sure I will face backlash on the statement I am about to make. But the thing is, I don't speak without facts.

A lot of police personnel are involved in these theft crimes. Would you believe it? They have one job. One effing job of stopping street crimes in Karachi but they chose to do the same. I mean, ask yourself, where do you think is this city headed with our Police and armed forces leading it? This reminds me of a scene from Star Wars.

You don't believe what I mentioned above? Recently, a robbery took place in Karachi. Two women got out of the rickshaw and walked towards their house gate. Suddenly, two masked men, on a bike appeared and started looting these two women. One of these women had already rung the house bell. In the meantime, a young boy opened the gate and saw these two women being looted. His instincts kicked in and he pranced towards the robber only to get shot in the chest. He died on spot and the robbers fled. This young guy got married the last week. One week after his marriage, his life ended, leaving his wife a widow, his mother wailing.

But wait, that's not it. The footage was captured on the CCTV camera and it got viral. Due to the pressure, the police were forced to take action on it. Here comes the best part. Upon investigation, the guy who shot the fire turned out to be a frigging Police Personnel. I don't have enough words and emotions to continue writing on this case.

Ps: the video footage of this case is really disturbing so I didn't post it Publicly. If you want to have a look at, you can text me and I'll send it to you.

But I guess, that's what happens when the armed forces live in secured boundary walls, leaving the whole city on its own. How ironic is this? Armed forces are here to protect us yet they live in secured societies, with guards all around them, sleeping peacefully while the whole city burns. I read somewhere that:

When the people who swore to protect you start living in secured places leaving you on your own, that's when you realize something's wrong with the people and the place.

How accurate is this? Today, we have thousands of acres of property alotted only for the armed forces. But that's a story of a different day.

I guess I don't have enough energy to continue writing on this topic. But, let me tell y'all something. There's still a ray of hope in all of us in here. There's still sympathy in people's hearts over here. There exist people in Karachi, who'd still help others without expecting anything in return. There are still people hoping, praying, and believing in a better future. But, I suppose, believing is not enough. It's the young people like us who'd need to gear up. To take charge, to do something. To save this city. Or is it too late? Can this city still be saved? I'll leave this for you to answer in the comments section. Regards

I have been going alone to my institutes since my olevels and i was never afraid of it . But recently i got robbed and since that day whenever i step out of my house my heart beats so fast and i get so frightened that whole time there is one thing in my mind that i can be robbed again , these people are so mad that they can even shoot due to this i am literally now afraid of stepping out alone or even with someone 😔 .
I really think that things can still get better and Karachi can be saved and I pray that one day all this gets sorted and people who are for our protection take their duties seriously ☹️..

I really hope for that as well. I am sure we will all work something out for the better future of this city. Cez if we don't, no one's coming to our rescue.

These issues are not in Karachi only, whole Pakistan is deeply immersed in corruption. Karachi is the biggest and most populated city that's why crime rate is automatically higher there.

I spent two years in Karachi and in that time, I found it far more peaceful and welcoming than portrayed on media.

We stayed out late night and never feared about being mugged. I don't know if it was luck or at that time Karachi was actually peaceful.

But since you have always been in Karachi so you must have seen all good and bad times.

I have seen robberies happening in securest places. I think, it's all about integrity which is lacking in us as a nation. We can't blame our leaders, they are people just like us, people from among us.

We need to chage ourselves first and stop blaming what others do.

There's corruption in Police because elites buy their integrity, talking about bribery here.

But I guess, that's what happens when the armed forces live in secured boundary walls, leaving the whole city on its own. How ironic is this? Armed forces are here to protect us yet they live in secured societies, with guards all around them, sleeping peacefully while the whole city burns.

It is not armed forces job to interfere in interior matters/ crimes until called upon by the civil administration. Armed forces are there to protect borders of the country not to solve internal crimes.

An armed personnel is at 24x7 job risking his life. He is at the borders, or running other life threatening jobs for the peace of country all the time. He comes home for sleeping and sometimes after weeks or months so he doesn't actually live in the secured walls but yes his family does live. So that he can perform his job with more concentration having not to worry about his own family. His family generally includes a young wife and a small child living far from immediate family at unknown and sometimes deserted station where she doesn't know anyone personally and doesn't know when his husband will come or where he is.

Living in uncertainty is seriously not so fun.

As a pakistni and as citizen of Karachi we all know the facts about these situations my brother in law is a journalist and crime reporter he told us about what's going on daily vases but he always said we all are equally involved it's not just about politicians why young boys doing robbery and snatched phones? Because they don't have jobs they don't have sources , but at least we should spread the positivity for our country to any social media or any social side ,Karachi always giving sacrifices but it's not the problem of Karachi it's a problem of our mind sets . may Allah always protect our city and protect our country 🙏 Ameeen it's not the city of death it's always be city of light Inshallah Ameeen .

We all know terrorism is on peak nowadays but you know what? world is afraid of Pakistan already and islamophobia. Do you think these information if we spread in these platforms will influence the country? We must spread the positivity not telling how worse our country is. Because the majority residents are corrupt that's why we have the corrupted politicians. Tell me honestly haven't you given Bribe to any policeman yet?? If you have given then you're also the part of the problem. The most of the Muslims have the problem of hypocrisy nowadays, To become SOCIALLY ACCEPTABLE in a society is not what we are. Many of my brothers and sisters are nothing but the slave of the social attention and admiration. You're talking about Ukraine right. I really appreciate it but still If you're concerned about a woman and children in Ukraine but not talking about what's happening in Indian, and how Women and children are being treated in Kashmir. If a muslim woman in Kashmir and a non-muslim woman in Ukraine are raped at the same time, your PRIORITY is supposed to be former. If not, you have an identity crisis. We are humans we can have different perspectives but Sorry your post just blew my mind.
