Weekly CRICKET Review - xiv | Whitewash with an embarrassing defeat for Sri Lanka
How's everything going friend? You already know that I am sharing a weekly wrap-up of the things that's going within the Cricket community. We have very busy schedule from the start of the year. Targeting 2023 ODI world, teams are actively preparing with a few bilateral series. BPL, BBL and SA20 leagues and also Women's under 19 world cup is also going on these days. So, there's a lot in the table.
So, let's see what happened in the last week with this situation!!! You can read my previous week review here, High Scoring thriller between neighbours🔥
Embarassing series for Sri Lanka in India
Well, this is gonna hurt a bit. 3 T20I and 3 ODI matches were held in the last two weeks between Sri Lanka vs India in India. In the first two T20 matches, Sri Lanka team gave a good fight. But there is nothing from Sri Lanka in the last T20, and in ODI series. Just the dominance of Inian team. The first two games were described in the last week, and um not going to tell much about others in this week.
The third T20 was just a SKY's show. Batting first, India scored 228 runs for 5 wickets. SKY was just hammered Sri Lankan bowlers rudely, 112 runs not out. His third within the year. His record in T20 is just unbelievable. In the chase Sri Lanka could only manage, 137 runs.
The ODI Series
It was just a disaster. I shared my ideas, Another Series Defeat for Sri Lanka, after the first two matches.
India scored 373 runs in the first ODI. Rohit and Gill took a promising start throughout the tournament and Kohli scored a century. Chasing the target, Sri Lanka was 207-8 within 40 overs. But Shanka sensibly batted with Rajitha and scored brilliant century taking Sri Lanka to 306 runs. That was the only positive in the series for the lions.
In the second match, Sri Lanka only managed 215 runs batting first. India chased the target with the sensible batting of KL Rahul.
Once again India scored 390 runs batting first. Gill contributed with a hundred. And King Kohli, scored 166 runs in just 110 balls, setting few new records. It was his 46th century in ODI, just 3 behind the great Tendulkar, his second highest score, he is now the fifth highest run getter in ODI. In the last 4 ODI he has scored 3 centuries. Looks like vintage Kohli is back.
Chasing the target Sri Lanka could only manage just 73 runs in 22 overs. 317 runs defeat. Now the highest margin in ODI. Siraj was impressive in the powerplay, taking 4 wickets.
ODI series win for NZ in Paksitan
Both the Test matches between these two was drawn sharing the trophy and they were up against each other for 3 ODI matches.
The first ODI, NZ batting first only managed 255 runs, Nazzem Shah just rattled them with 5 wickets. PAK chased it with 6 wickets in hand with centuries of Babar, Rizwan and Fakar Zaman.
NZ scored 261 runs batting first at the second match. Convey scored yet another and with Kane these two put 10 runs partnership for the second wicket. But PAK bowled really well in the later part restricting them to this total. But there was never a chase by PAK batsmen. They could only score 13 runs. NZ spinners did a really good job.
- Third ODI was a thriller. PAK scored 280 runs batting first, with a century of Fakar Zaman. NZ top order laid the foundation and Glen Phillips finished the job with 63 runs off 42 balls onside 48 overs. It was KIWIS' first ODI series win at Pakistan.
So, that's it for this week. Um not going to discuss about the league matches. Hope you will enjoy this season. Just give a comment!
Until the next time! Enjoy!
Thank you.
