Incredible India monthly contest April #02|My town in 10 pictures.
Dear friends,
Today I am here to take part in the contest announced inside the community contest link
After a long time, I fetched the prospect to present;
my town to my compatriots.
1.What is the name of your town, and when did you capture those pictures? Describe. |
---|
I live in Kolkata(which is also known as the city of joy). Kolkata was the capital of India before independence.
Hence some old buildings, trams, yellow taxis, the national library;
are some nostalgic fortes anyone can still notice in Kolkata.
Today I am sharing those pictures that I captured at the end of the last year 2022
And some are grasping at the facade of this year2023.
When I dwelled in Kolkata with my cousin's brother and my nephew;
while visiting the town,
I noticed how two things are parallel dais side by side.
While old monuments provide you with nostalgic sentiments;
At the same time, new construction will make you comprehend advanced technology.
2.Introduce each picture with details, and share reasons behind why those places are unique. |
---|
1.Now I would love to balk from before independence;
and therefore, the first picture I shared here is a picture of a tram.
Kolkata is the only city in the entire India;
where visitors can still notice the tram. The pride of the city of joy.
2.In my subsequent picture, I would love to introduce the national library;
which is another construction built before independence. I am also going to share the historical background of this place;
in the third question asked in the contest.
3.Another nostalgic vehicle of Kolkata is yellow taxis,
which are still encountered in the city;
which also has its own history. It is believed the 1907-08 taxi service started in Kolkata but the yellow and black taxi was started by the taxi association in 1962 when the hind motor company converted( ambassadors) into taxis.
4.Another nostalgic shopping store created 74 years back by the late Surendra Mohan Saha Traders assembly (Situated in Gariahat, Kolkata).
5.Now let me introduce some places that are newly constructed;
but they still carry some memories that are the pridefulness of my town.
Biswa Bangla gate. That is a hanging restaurant, and inside the restaurant, you can find pictures of famous personalities that make Kolkata separate from any other state of India.
6.Clock Tower- is the replication of Ben Tower (England, London);
situated in a place called Lake Town.
The clock looks so beautiful at night when nonnative colors revise the glance of the tower.
Outside and inside of the Byepass Dhaba |
---|
7.Byepass Dhaba- situated in the area of science city Kolkata not only famous for the delicacies but inside the restaurant, they pay tribute to the great Satyajit Ray(Oscar winner director). If you visit the Dhaba will find all famous films pictures kept in separate frames;
which will undoubtedly give you goosebumps.

It is Asia's immense science camp it is situated;
in a place in Kolkata named Topsia. Each thing inside the park had retained Science in mind.
Hence the park is named after Science.

where this beautiful park is situated and with more than thirty-five rides. In 2003 one Giant cyclone counted inside the park;

ITC Royal Bengal -Kolkata |

10. ITC Royal Bengal - The spacious, luxurious hotel situated in a place in Kolkata named Tengra. Inside the hotel, there are eighty-two serviced apartments with four-hundred and fifty-six rooms and suites.
3.If any picture contains a narrative, you share that anecdote with us. |

As I mentioned above that Kolkata was the capital of India before Independence;
Hence everything created before independence holds some stories.
Today I will share the story of Tram and the National Library.
- Tram- The story goes about 1873-1880 when Kolkata was known as Calcutta. At that time first Meter-gauge horse-drawn tram tracks commenced.
The lane had commenced by the Viceroy, Lord Ripon.
Sealdah to Armenian Ghat via Bowbazar Street, Dalhousie Square, and Strand Road.
- National Library:-
One of the most haunted places in Kolkata;
Where still guards are not ready to continue service after dusk. People believe that even today, the soul of Warren Hastings roams inside the library.
I mentioned one of my earlier contents, the detailed story of the place.
I would love to invite @sampabiswas, @piya3, and @noelisdc to participate in this contest.
