TacoCat's TrEats #76: Crispy, Spicy, Yummy and Thrifty! 🍗

Hey Steemit!
I think I've finally finished writing about all our takeout trips! And now that it's been quite a while since Singapore has has been out of lockdown, or what our government has termed "circuit breaker", restaurants have been operating pretty much as usual aside from implementing safe distancing measures. We've also been eating out more and trying new places!
And one of these new places is an Indonesian restaurant called Dapur Penyet!

So we were in town the other day shopping for kitchen stuff from Takashimaya for our new home and decided to grab some dinner at Orchard Centrepoint since it was less crowded there and we were really hungry. Well, relatively less crowded than the other malls in town. It was a Saturday after all.
Anyway, this place was the only one we came across that didn't have a queue and the prices were quite reasonable so we decided to give it a try.
The interior was pretty comfortable. I wouldn't say it was a very classy place; it definitely felt more like a food court or Kopitiam, but it was nice enough and suited our simple tastes. And for the affordable food you really can't complain.
They did have some nice paintings at the back and banners across the top showing all the countries they had outlets in, which is good to know since it gives customers' reassurance of quality and boosts their reputation.
Anyway, to order, you have to go to counter like in a fast-food restaurant. We took some time to see what they had in the menu before deciding.
Their menu is pretty substantial; with dishes from various types of meat (except pork since it's halal), vegetables, soup and some other light side dishes. We decided to order from these pages:

So for the meat, we ordered the classic ayam penyet since that's their signature dish. We also ordered 2 types of vegetables as the servings look a little small. And we decided to try their tahu telor as well, which is fried beancurd with egg. And of course, 2 plates of rice for each of us.
About 10 minutes or so later, our food arrived!
This was the tahu telor:
Tumis kangkung belacan; which is stir-fried kangkung with sambal belacan:
Tumis taoge; stir fried bean sprouts:
And of course, the ayam penyet, which comes with some white cabbage and fried tau kwa:
Each plate of rice also came with a few pieces of kerupuk, which is Indonesian deep fried crackers made from starch. Everything smelled so good we couldn't wait to dig in!
The sambal kangkung was indeed pretty spicy, but so yummy! The tahu telor was really good; crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and savoury all round. The ayam penyet itself was alright; not the best I've tried but still really tasty!
But the bean sprouts were really plain. I think they might've missed out on seasoning it and just stir-fried it with nothing so it was pretty bland. But it did help to alleviate some of the spice from the sambal kangkung so that's good.
Overall, a really satisfying and scrumptious meal!
Unfortunately I don't think Dapur Penyet actually has a website but they are on a couple of delivery apps like GrabFood. All I could find out regarding their background is they started in 2005 and most likely became the pioneers specialising in ayam penyet in Singapore. And now they have outlets in other parts of Southeast Asia as well, including Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei and Myanmar.
I think this meal cost us less than 15 bucks! It's probably one of the most affordable restaurants in town and the food is really good too so if you're ever in the area and looking for some yummy food without breaking the bank, check out Dapur Penyet!
