Ray Parker Jr. - Ghostbusters

The film's production asked Parker to expand on the song because it was such a hit. Parker complied. The theme, which debuted in June 1984 along with the tape, required the filming of a video clip, which was crucial at a time when MTV had changed consumer behavior and made the artist's image as important as the song.

No artist has ever used so many guest stars in a music video of this type, including Danny DeVito, Chevy Chase, and John Candy, to name a few. The "Ghostbusters" video clip set a new precedent. That is, there was no need to pay for these celebrities to participate. Reitman, who also directed the video, persuaded his actor friends to appear by mentioning the film.

In addition to the guest actors, who by not getting paid drew the attention of their union, which established new rules and asked that they not repeat the action, the film's protagonists also became visible while dancing in Times Square, where Bill Murray tried to perform some breakdancing moves without being asked.

Like the movie, the song "Ghostbusters" was a hit, reaching number one on the regular Billboard chart. As stated by Parker Jr., this song helped him get accepted on MTV, where African-American musicians would have had trouble getting noticed (unless they were called Michael Jackson).
