Open Church is back! Come join in the discussion and fellowship

in Christian Fellowship5 years ago

Open Church is an initiative I first started a year or two ago with the Christian-trail community. I thoroughly enjoyed the Open Church posts which led to a lot of engagement, so I’m hoping I can do this again every Sunday in our Christian Fellowship community. Open Church is a weekly post that aims to be a place where Christians on Steem can hang out, encourage and build up one another, and reflect the love of Christ. The church is not a building, but is made up of people who have been transformed by God’s grace.

Steem is not all about money, but it’s also a community of real people with real needs. So let us be a community of brothers and sisters that can Truly support one another with our real lives. Hope we can put aside the monetary aspect of Steem and enter into authentic fellowship with one another.

Each week I will be putting up a new post with a new topic or theme for discussion. But feel free to come here just to fellowship and be a blessing to one another. Whatever denominational background your from, or if you’re just curious about the Christian faith, everyone is welcome.

So feel free to share a link to your favourite worship song, share a word of encouragement, a prayer request, or introduce yourself.

Today’s theme is: Besides the Bible, what book have you been reading recently that has challenged you and stirred your faith?

I remember doing this topic in one of the previous Open Church posts and got some very good book recommendations, so I’m hoping we can have some nice discussions here.

Two of the books I recommended in my initial post were Radical by David Platt and Crazy Love by Francis Chan. A book I’m currently reading for my theology studies is Communicating for a Change by Andy Stanley. I would highly recommend this book for pastors, preachers, or anyone who does public speaking.

How about you? Feel free to share a book recommendation, a song or a scripture, or simply feel free to hang out here.

Thank you very much for this open call to all brethren to join the community in sharing contents that can edify the members. Please I have a little challenge with using the tag of @christian Fellowship in my post. Please I need to be cleared whether the name is one word or should perhaps be separated with an hyphen list I post to a wrong community.
Anticipating you feed back ASAP.
Bless you.

You’re very welcome. Glad to have you in the community. Christian Fellowship is a community and a bit different to tags. All you need to do is go to the Christian Fellowship community here and click on post, then your content will appear in the community, or you can just comment on any of the posts. Hope that helps. Blessings

Oh, thank you very much for getting back to me on this. It has but proven that you care for the brethren here and their needs. God bless you.
Good morning and do have a great day ahead.

You’re very welcome.

Thank you very much for the warm welcome. Bless you.

Hello @nextgen622 and everyone! ((:

I read certain books over the past week, but I browsed them at a library and didn't manage to recall their titles.

I think one really good resource is Ligonier Ministries by late R.C. Sproul - can check it out here. They have teaching series, devotionals etc.

Have a blessed week y'all!! <3

Thanks for that Joey. O yes, Ligonier Ministries is an excellent resource. Thanks for that.
Hehe and know what you mean by forgetting the book titles. I’m always forgetting the titles of the books I’m reading. I always need to go back to Kindle or Audible to dig up the titles. :)

It was a great blessing to me to recently finish a book about Bob Pierce, a visionary and missionary who had a tremendous impact on Christian ministries all over the world. He had a particular passion for Korea and China. You may recall I shared a bit about this book in an exchange with you a while back @nextgen622.

The book's title is This One Thing I Do and was authored by Franklin Graham, the son of Billy Graham. Among the surprising things the reader learns in this book was the impact of Bob Pierce on young Franklin's life. Almost surpassing that of his famous father. They worked together quite closely for many years.

Appreciate your own hopes and aspirations for this community my brother. Let's find out what our Lord has for us in it!

Yes, I do remember our conversation about this book. I would love to read it, but unfortunately it’s not available on Kindle. He sounds like an amazing person. I love biographies, especially of missionaries.
Thanks brother for your support with this community.

Oh wow...Books! My addiction :)

What I'm reading currently is the Great Controversy by Ellen White. Fantastic historic look at the early church, middle ages, prophecy and leading up to present times. Still reading it though cause it's a doozy at around 600-700 pages long.

One of my favorite books that I ever read was from Timothy Keller's 'The Reason For God'....Absolutely brilliant.

Of course C.S. Lewis's Mere Christianity is a must read too....Oh don't get me started on books lol

Ah nice, excellent recommendations. Tim Keller has some great books, and yes Mere Christianity is a classic.
I haven’t heard of the Great Controversy. Will need to check that one out.

Haha, I’ll need to come to you for some more book recommendations once I get through all the books on my list. I love books too, and thought about starting a book community on Steem. Maybe one day. :)

I prefer the Bible over any other books, but I enjoy books about the great revivalists of the past that have really impacted their world for Christ. One book is about the Great Welsh Revivals and Evan Roberts.

Thanks brother. I love reading biographies of missionaries and Christians in the past. I will need to add him to the list.

I prefer the Bible over anything, but this kind of book, for me is great!
