Fruits and Veggies Monday - New Year Lemon & Mint Crush
I got a speeding ticket trying to make it to the FAVM New Year's Eve party on time, but I'm still late!
The clock however has still not struck the midnight hour so I brought along a super refreshing Lemon & Mint Crush Cocktail - non-alcoholic but sure to give your taste buds a zing, minus the headache that follows many new Year's Eve bashes plus you're sure to pass any breathalyser test if you're out driving!
I do enjoy a G&T now and then so am sure this would make a super duper mix!
The inspiration of this beverage came from a recent visit to the Doghouse Craft Cafe where I experienced a taste sensation like none other - it was a very hot day when we went so this was much appreciated!
I will share my attempt at reproducing their Lemon & Mint Slushy with all my FAVM friends. The restaurant owner kindly told me what goes into it and I must say my attempt was not too shabby although the original tasted much much better!
Shout out to all South Africans or anyone visiting the South Coast of Kwazulu Natal, do yourselves a favour and make this one of your places to visit.
I wrote about The Doghouse Craft Cafe a while back; a unique experience with tables spread out under massive old trees with delicious food and craft beer from Bassett Breweries on offer.
Two bass dams are a couple of steps away and there's a walking trail in the beautiful Yellowwood Private Nature Reserve for the more energetic.
Let's get going and make our New Year Lemon & Mint Crush
INGREDIENTS
- Rind of 1 and juice of 3 Lemons
- 3 teaspoons Zylitol
- Enough filtered water to make 1 litre
- A bunch of fresh Mint
- Couple of ice cubes
Pop all into blender and blend till mint is finely chopped
Lesson learnt - next time I will only blend a quarter of the liquid with the mint to get the fresh lemonade to stay lemony and only have the green mint on top, but it still tasted really delicious and refreshing!
Perfect summery New Year's Eve Cocktail - it's summer here in the Southern hemisphere;)
One last quick look before the clock ticks over to a brand new year!

That is definitely my kind of New Year cocktail Lizelle, since I do not drink alcohol!!! The perfect substitute even for champagne! Although, here is cold and snowing, I am drooling just looking at it, lol. Happy New Year my Dear, I wish you only the best, lots of joy and prosperity! Cheers! 🍋🥂🌿
Ah thank you Lena, I was thinking this would not be the kind of drink you'd like right now with all the snow, but remember it in summertime;)
Wishing you and yours a wonderfully blessed new year!
