Embracing the Elements
“Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts. There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature -- the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after winter.” ― Rachel Carson
Earth, Air, Fire, Water...
......
Last night we decided to do a pork roast on the weber.
And that is NOT what this post is about,
but considering the fact that the element which cooked it is,
it would feel wrong not to share its awesome crispy glory with you...
hehehe!
Now as you will most likely know,
a weber doesn't really offer any flame, and for whatever reason...
I felt like sitting by a fire...
Which is why we have a small fire pit,
which we then lit.
Much like the reveling in ANY of the elements,
I simply LOVE sitting around a fire.
It is incredibly relaxing, and in many ways very meditative,
not to mention therapeutic.
I could literally sit for hours,
watching the flames dance around,
observing all the colours as they change
and absorbing the comforting heat.
I love to photograph fire.
My photos may not be that grand,
but it is the enjoyment that I get out of it which matters to me most.
I have always had a very healthy respect for mother nature.
She is far more powerful than most of us even take the time to comprehend.
She can change the course of history,
in a matter of minutes and in those moments,
is normally when mankind suddenly develops
that level of respect for her sheer limitless power!
The elements of mother nature
are so very majestic in their qualities,
but the one common thread
which they all have is that they replenish us.
They give us renewed energy and perspective.
“I felt my lungs inflate with the onrush of scenery—air, mountains, trees, people. I thought, "This is what it is to be happy.” ― Sylvia Plath
Whether it is sitting with your feet in the sand
watching and listening to the waves on a beach,
lying on a forest floor smelling the damp earth
as you look up at the canopy of giants,
or simply standing barefoot
with a hosepipe in hand watering your garden...
Mother nature provides us with ALL the energy we need
to lift and reset ourselves.
She removes the clutter, with a wave of calm.
“Live in each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influence of the earth.” ― Henry David Thoreau
For me personally,
I look at the elements as a sort of "battery"
Whenever I feel depleted,
drained or anything less than complete,
nature and music are the two things
that I am naturally attracted to
in order to fill my cup once again.
And it really does not matter what I do,
even if it is something as simple as stepping outside
for five minutes to get some fresh air,
close my eyes and take in all the smells and sounds.
“A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.” ― Albert Einstein

Until next time...

Nice looking roast @jaynie. Those tree trunks are awesome. I love looking into a controlled fire. It can be so relaxing and meditative.
Thanks hon! And yes it is very meditative! So is washing the dishes actually haha!! (People think I am crazy)
For many, it is incredible that only a small breeze can make a difference in the mood of anyone looking for the calm they need to experience at any given time.
In my case, I do it early in the morning before starting work, observing the roses I care for every day; At night, I approach the pool area and, lying on a deck chair, I delight to see the light radiated by the stars in the dark sky vault.
There I feel infinitely small before the magnitude of the universe.
Thanks for sharing this story.
Oh yes!

Whooah pork roast! We have something very similar that we call here Lechon Roll. It's stuffed with lemon grass, pepper, salt and other spices. I also love sitting by the fire and last time I did that was like 4 years ago when we went out camping on the beach. The cracking of the fire, the smell of burning wood is very calm and relaxing. Topping it off with the fresh cool breeze from the ocean is perfect and you could just drowse off to sleep.
Lechon roll sounds amazing! oh and fire and ocean together.... you cannot BEAT that combo!!!
I Love Fire Too! As you say here.. I could sit there for ever. We often light a fire here in the back yard. Small pit. Just enough to give us a nice little fire to last while we sip our wine, think and enjoy each others company or that of friends. I've even fallen asleep out there just chillaxing.. but I've been known to fall asleep just about everywhere. hehe.
I once saw a skeletal figure in a large fire.. I did NOT like that. :-O
Oh yes! I am forever looking for an excuse to light a fire hehehe
hehehe.. no problem with that you pyromaniac! haha.. (just kidding)
Isn't that the very truth. Many scoffs at the idea that weather can control them, throwing caution to the wind and diving right in. Having lived through
too many to countdifferent levels of hurricanes and tornados, flood and wildire, I can honestly say that not only do I respect her, I bow down to her, for nothing will stop this woman once scorned, or should I say, especially when she is scorned. She can be your best friend, offering relaxing sunsets and the repetiitve sounds of the ocean rolling in and out. The sound of the bullfrogs calling out into the night or she can punish for the abuse we put upon her every single day.
Oh, yes. you hit is so well today. You just can't fool Mother Nature. She knows. Just like your mother knew about that time you skipped school and went to the beach instead, burning your lily-white skin.
Le sign.

Of all people, I knew this would resonate with you!!! MWAH!
This is wonderful! I love the images and the spirit-environment relationship.
Thank you sweetie :)
Ah! the beauty and wonder of nature with all it's elements!
I totally relate to having nature recharge you!
I especially like going out into nature to clear my head after working on the computer, to get out of cyberspace for awhile and back into the natural world, even if just for 5 mins.
Some beautiful photography there @jaynie!
Lovely choice of quotes too!
Thanks for sharing!
YES YES YES!!! - It is the best "re-charger" EVER!
Thanks for the compliment xxx
This entire post resonated with me on a deep level.
Nature is healing and restorative. Enveloped by the fresh green of a forest with the crisp air cleansing you on a cellular level. Lulled by waves with warm sand caressing your toes and salty breezes fanning you free of stressors. Being mesmerized by the friendly crackle and pop of the fire. The happily busy sounds of birds and insects on a spring morning resonating an ancient vibrational contact between you and Mother Earth... There are no words. You know deep inside my friend 😊
What a beautiful reminder 🍃🌻🌱🌷🌍🌎🌏🌠
Thank you for sharing. 🎁💜
