Steemit Engagement Challenge S5-W1|My traditional clothes Iro and Buba and oleku | BY @preshglam1
Traditional wears are clothes associate or that are traceable to a particular ethic group or tribe. Traditional wears are used for various occasion either formal or non-formal. Nigeria is blessed with 3 major ethics group namely Hausa, Igbo and Yoruba in which each has it own unique way of dressing. For the purpose of this study, the Yoruba tribe will be taken into consideration. I happen to come from the tribe of Yoruba in Nigeria so I think I know more about some of Yoruba wear which I will be discussing in about
What are your native wear Names? Talk about each of them if many.
Yoruba states in Nigeria includes Oyo, Osun, Ogun, Ekiti and so on. There are various native wear that are associated with Yoruba culture which are wore for celebrations or causally. Such wear includes:-Iro and Buba, Dansiki, Oleku, Fila abeti Aja, Kenbe, Agbada, Baba Sekere, Sooro, Aso Oke to mention few.
Iro and Buba is one of my favourite native wear in yoruba culture. This attire is wore by woman. Iro is a long sleeve top which is made from local fabrics while the Buba is a long and wide cloth which is tie around the waist. This attire is used for various occasion such as wedding, naming, funeral and so on. This wear is so much unique and very important to our mothers in Yorubaland as they believe that it add to there beautiful and distinguish them as married woman most time.
Dansiki are wore by men in yorubaland. It is a cloth in form of a jacket which covers the back and front of men to the waist but exclude the arm or covers it a little. This cloth is actually good to wear during heat period. It gives cuteness to men and also speak of culture. This attire can also be wore for various occasion.
Oleku is always in form of Iro and Buba, the only difference is that the top is short and the iro stops at kneel level unlike the normal lro that gets to the ankle. The oleku dress happens to be my favourite wear because of the nature and uniqueness of the dress. It has a way of communicating strong message across most especially if you are a Yoruba, you will understand quite better. This wear is really common among young ladies of Yoruba, although, so old people too wears it. This attire as a long life span.
Fila Abeti Aja is a native cap which is used to compliment clothes wore by Yoruba men. Fila abeti Aja is a cap which as two sides with a layer at each sides which are in form of Dog's ears. This cap has a long life span and mostly used by hunters.
Kenbe is a Yoruba man native trouser in which the two legs(sides) of the trouser are big. The trouser stops before getting to the ankle. This attire is mostly wore by old men. Though the use of this attire is not common any longer.
Agbada is the most common Yoruba man dress. This wear is used by both young and old. Those in this dress always has special appearance and treatment. In the olden days, any one who wears this attire is considered a rich person- this idealogy also exist till date. Agbada has a wide opening at each side whereby it can be folded when wore.
Baba Sekere are men's wear in which the tip of the cloth(top) reach the ankle. Sooro is a trouser in which the legs are thin. It's not really durable because it's thin, hence, it can easily tear.
Others includes Aso Oke, Ofi, Akeeke etc.
How much can one cost? (Give price both in your local currency and steem)
The cost of lro and Buba depends on the material they are made from but the least cost is around 10 steem which is $2. It should be noted that they can be gotten at a higher price depending on ones budget and the level of inflation.
Dansiki cost atleast around 15 steem or $3 depending on the material and the inflation rate. Oleku cost atleast 15 steem also which is $3 also depends on inflation rate and other factors. Fila Abeti Aja costs atleast 20 steem or $4. Kenbe cost around 20 steem or $4
Agbada cost around 45 steem or $9 depending on the material. Baba sekere and Sooro cost around 20 steem or $4.
What is their durability?
Those attires are not wore ordinarily but on special occasion, hence, they last long. Th durability level is quite high as the material used in making those materials and dressing are of high quality. The texture is really of high quality thereby encouraging the durability to be high.
In fact some of the dresses can be worn for as many years as possible for even quite minimum of five years and even above depending on how you can maintain it.
Do you think it can be allowed to be worn in other places?
Those native wears can be wore in other area of the world except otherwise stated. Even, most foreigners so much appreciate and like those wears which made them adopt them. Also, most of those wears are normally exported to other countries, hence, they serve as source of revenue and bilateral trade between nations.
Are there any similarities between your local wear and other parts of the world?
There are some similarities between those attires and that of other culture, like the Agbada and Ukwuli in the Igbo culture.
In conclusion, traditional wears are really important in promoting and exhibition of culture. I strongly believe it is quite common to a lot part of the country due to th vast usefulness of the dressing
I really encourage @pandora2010 , @josephdaniela and @fombae to participate in this contest

Thanks for inviting me, I'm looking forward to participating in this contest. I trust Nigerians with great traditional colorful outfits, you guys can be compared with Ghana and Zulu in South Africa.
Most of the African wear is occasionally, especially the one you call Dansiki. Mostly for marriages, going to church and attending local events. I would love to have it some day, probably when I visit Nigeria.
With the number of local wear, we are still having fun of western outfits LOL. If I may be asked, Which are you more comfortable in? (local wears or Western wears).
Dansaki is really popular among african and I really love the nature and texture of the clothe

Women love beautiful dresses obviously 😍
This outfit has a beautiful motif. You only show clothes for women, but I want to see clothes worn by men.
I also share about traditional clothes, if you have time please take a look and I'm very happy
Thank you for your comments
Are you sure the amount you attributed to these outfits is real sha because they are too cheap? Aso oke is probably the most expensive material in Nigeria at the moment, and I believe some of these wears you call Danski are made from Aso oke.
Thanks for sharing.
