In our country, the greatest inequality arises from the quota system. No other country in the world has as many quotas as Bangladesh does in government jobs. Because of this, university students in Bangladesh first called for an anti-quota movement on the streets in 2018. After a few days of protests, the quota system was temporarily suspended, but the government later reinstated it. Currently, 60-96% of government jobs are reserved under the quota system, leaving no opportunities for meritorious students.

Freedom Fighter quota: 30%
Women quota: 10%
District quota: 10%
Indigenous quota: 5%
Disabled quota: 1%
Total:Only 56% quota

Quota distribution in non-cadre jobs in 1st and 2nd class:

Freedom Fighter quota: 30%
Women quota: 15%
District quota: 10%
Indigenous quota: 5%
Disabled quota: 1%

Total: Only 61% quota

** In 3rd and 4th class jobs, only 70% quota
** Only 82% quota in the railway.

Quota distribution in primary teacher recruitment:
Women quota: 60%
Freedom Fighter quota: 30%
Disabled quota: 5%
Disabled quota: 1%

Total: 96% quota

Our only demand as students was to abolish all quotas and ensure that all jobs are filled based on merit, but that is not happening. The High Court ruled against the students on this matter, prompting them to take to the streets in protest. I was one of them. I promoted the movement extensively on social media, but I couldn't participate directly. As the students intensified their protests day and night, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh expressed her discontent.

As the students refused to leave the streets, the students of two universities were beaten with batons and shot at around midnight last night. During that time, all network connections were shut down in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. So far, it has been reported that 7 people have died and countless others have been injured. Many students have gone missing. We didn't ask for much; we only wanted our rights. But for this, so many mothers have lost their children today. I am truly at a loss for words in the face of such injustice. Tears are coming to my eyes uncontrollably😪.I hope no other country has a job quota system like ours. I am truly ashamed of our country's quota system🙏. Please pray for students like me. May we achieve victory and abolish the quota system.
