The story of a woman seeking oysters who is willing to soak 7 hours in river water
Hello Steemian in CCS Community Everyone
How are you all today, I hope you are doing well wherever you are
In the low tide of the river in the afternoon, you can see a number of women sitting soaking in the river. Yes, these middle-aged women are working to find oysters and clams there. Their job is to help their husband meet the needs of his family, who also works as a fisherman. The women have to be willing to soak in the water for several hours just to get oysters and clams. And they always hope to get lots of clams and oysters to collect and sell to traditional markets.
These women come from fishing villages that live in coastal areas. Every afternoon when the river water comes. They go out using tools such as machetes, knives and baskets as they work to find oysters and clams. They have no choice and continue to work to find oysters there. Although they must be willing to soak a few hours in the water. The reason is to help her husband and meet the economic needs of his family.
Apart from that, women seeking oysters also bring their children with them when they work to find oysters. Yes, this state of affairs is familiar to them. They never complain about the situation. even though in the afternoon the hot sun burned the soft skin of the women as if it was something they were used to.
According to one of the oyster prospectors there that I met after taking some photos. They told me that it was not easy to get oysters and clams. Even though it looks very easy. His hands and feet are sometimes scratched and injured due to the famous oyster shells and clams that are not visible in the river water.
Well, on this occasion he also told me that the oysters and clams he searched for, they sell to traditional markets with an average price of around Rp. 20.000,-/pack. The money generated from the sale is used to buy other staples according to the daily needs of the family and is also set aside to pay for their children's educational needs.
That's the story of the women looking for oysters and clams in the river in the afternoon that I wrote and shared in my post this time. Hopefully this short story can be a motivation for us to continue working on whatever we are going to do. Never complain about circumstances. Enjoy reading this short story.
