In Denmark, there is a small lake outside the town of Hobro in Jutland called Lake Kleitrup. Here you can travel around the world on a map made in the lake. In less than an hour you can visit all continents on our planet. Since the world map is not far from Hobro, it is easy to visit if you are in the neighborhood. When I was a child, I remember my parents taking us children on road trips to Hobro. At that time, we lived no more than an hour's drive away. A few years ago, I was back.

From an observation tower located approximately where Antarctica is , gives a good overview of the entire map. It was also from here we started to explore the world on foot. Since we could not cross either the Atlantic or the Pacific on foot, we went back to the starting point and moved to the next continent.

The world map was completed in 1969. It was created by a carpenter who, as far as I know, lived around here. He created it by moving stone and filling material into the lake. But he came up with the idea to make this map because the water level in the lake was lowered. That's when he saw a rock that looked like Jutland. This is the name of mainland Denmark. Then he started working with stones to make the rest of the world map.

This sight outside Hobro is still a favorite excursion destination. It has been developed with a playground, activities and a cafe. Nice to see that each country's flag is placed where the respective countries are located. Also note that rocks mark mountains and mountain ranges. It was really nice to be here again. It still looks as I remembered from my childhood visits.
