Food Diary #019 | Combro
I was not in good mood today so I did not eat rice. When my mood is bad, I lose all my appetite and prefer to not eat any. However that would not be good for my health so I bought some snack for my meal this noon.
This was I bought for lunch, a small rounded shape of deep fried cassave which was called as Combro. Combro is a famous streetfood in Indonesia, a fried cassava which comes with a round oval shape.
It is famous for being cheap and tasty. Due to cheap price, please don't expect anything fancy from how it is packaged. Mostly you only see them in some papers and plastic bag.
What inside Combro is usually oncom and some chili cut. oncom is a fermented soy paste. This food was originated from western Java, from Sundanese region. It is Sundanese food from beginning however lately it is widely accepted by whole nation.
Although it is a deep fried cassava with fermented soy paste as the filling, actually the taste of Combro quite differ from one place to another. I guess each people have modified the taste, the texture, the level of spiciness and many more to be more adjusted to local taste.
