"Steemit Engagement Challenge | S7W5 | "If I were The Principal" by @janemorane

Hello beautiful people!

I really appreciate this week’s topic for the contest which is “If I were a principal.” When I was not born my father had a school in a village, he had totally different roles and regulations in that school. Today when I see people, my cousins and other relatives and they say your father's school was an extraordinary school. My father never wanted to earn money through that school but only wanted to educate the children. His only purpose was providing education with very little and in most cases free of cost, like no tuition fees at all for the poor families who could not afford. There is a lot to say about the school but the reason why I am sharing this story is, whenever I think of being a principal my father comes to my mind as he is my ideal principal and I wish I could get a chance to study in my father's school. Today I will share what things and changes I would make If I ever got a chance to be the principal of any school.

What would you do for the growth of your school in academics?

I personally am a person who thinks that academic growth is only possible when we allow students to think out of the box. I will never force the students to only read and learn whatever is in the books, notes and whatever is thought by the teacher. Because I don’t want my students to be someone who is only compliant to the rules and does not really use their own thinking and cognition to do something extraordinary, something outside the course books. Only with freedom of expression only then can a student learn by heart and that learning can never be forgotten. I believe letting students decide what and how they actually want to learn can help my school and my students to score good in academics and this will increase the growth as well as the creativity and productivity of the students.

What tips would you give to the teachers regarding the maintenance of discipline?

I am always against the strict rules initiated by school and specially by the teachers for the students. I think whenever there are rules for someone they are meant to be broken by them because they have curiosity and specially a challenge for students to break those rules. In my school I would guide the teachers to always be concerned about the students, their happiness and comfort. When there will be no rules how students would break them. Students can be trained by teaching them ethics and morality rather than implementing rules and regulations they never want to follow. Teaching students moral values and the importance of ethics in their life will ultimately lead them to be moral and disciplined.

Discipline never comes with forcing students to stick to some specific, meaningless rules which do not really help anyone to be obedient and disciplined but the more you force and push the students their rebellious intensity will increase and then the students will only be more disorderly and disorganised.

Do you think sports should be promoted at school level? What would you want to do to encourage the sports boys/girls in your school?

Sports some way or the other is part of education. It is a must have in all the schools because students are always frustrated studying regularly and of course when there comes tests and exams I know the stress level of students at that time. So, along with academics students should be fully involved in all kinds of indoor and outdoor sports. In my school I will introduce different types of sports for students to participate in, feel relaxed and of course stay fit and healthy in this way.

  • Indoor games for girls:

Almost all educational institutes have sports but most of them are for boys and not for girls. I will be more concerned about the games that can be more participatory for girls. Specifically, indoor games would be introduced so that girls without any fear can participate and improve their playing skills and even participate in higher levels.

  • Sports opportunity for disabled students:

I will introduce special games through which disabled students will also be able to play and never feel left out while other students play and they just watching from far away, I can feel their pain and that's why I really want to introduce such sports for these special students in y school if I were a principal.

What do you do to provide an easy atmosphere for students to learn? (Behaviour of teachers with students).

  • One thing I have learned my whole life is that teachers play a great role in making and destroying the atmosphere of a school/college. A teacher is the role model for students, students do whatever their teacher told them and mostly whatever behaviours their teachers show. So, I would instruct the teachers to be friendly and not rude, happy and not aggressive while entering the class so the students won’t be afraid of asking questions and clearing their doubts. Mostly students like teachers who are more flexible with students and not those who are always angry and stick to the course outline.
  • A good teacher should always first try to make their students easy and relax with them and then start teaching so if the student has any doubt or question in mind they can freely ask the teacher because they expect that the teacher will never demotivated us by asking any silly question but would appreciate my thinking that these question come into my mind.
  • Other than that I would never allow any teacher to beat students and hurt their self respect. When there is no respect for students from their teachers these students tends to deviate from the right path and in most cases whenever a teacher is rude then students mostly stop coming to school/college because they are afraid of facing the teacher and committing any mistake. I would be instructing these things to the teachers in my school for a nice and comfortable environment for students to learn.

At last, tell us about the personality of your school principal in your matriculation level.

Till 8th grade I was in a very nice school that was more concerned about students, their creativity and other academics too, but unfortunately that school was only till 8th standard so I have to leave that school after 8th. I joined another school which does not have any speciality and also they were not providing quality education but the only thing that was convenient was it was near my house so it was the only advantage and that’s why my mother liked that school. The principal of that school was not that much of a model personality but he was a man appreciating students. Since I was from a good background school he liked my creative writing more. He used to appreciate me each and every time and write some story or an essay.

The one thing that I didn’t really like about that principal was that he used to do favouritism, he liked rich students because the school was itself not very well known, the principal only did his master's in English which is I guess very little education for being a principal and running an institute. Principal should understand the teacher's psyche as well as students' expectations from school/college.

Conclusion

In conclusion I would like to say that being a teacher is very great responsibility because principal set the atmosphere of an educational institute whether it is school, college or university principal is the base and if the base is strong the whole building will be strong working effectively and efficiently. Only a bright sighted teacher can brighten a student's future.

Thank You So Much For Reading

Teacher is a role model for all the students so if you want that school grow rapidly in academics as well as in other activities then you should have the most effective teachers which are following every rule and regulations and really becoming a role model for all students

You are very right dear, this is the identity of a good teacher.
