Greetings! I hope everyone here is safe and healthy by the Grace of Allah Almighty. Today I am here to take part in the contest organized by @malikusman1. The topic of the contest is "The Tech Quiz ". So lets start!
What are Layer 2 chains in crypto? |

Layer 2 chains in the crypto are like highways built on top of existing blockchain or layer 1 such as Ethereum. Their aim is to improve the speed and efficiency of transactions. You can imagine the main blockchain layer 1 as a busy road where every car (transaction) has to wait in line for their turn to move or be processed. Layer 2 chains act as extra lane on that road that allows cars to move without getting stuck in traffic.
The layer 2 chains use various techniques including sidechains and state channels to handle transactions off the main blockchain. By doing this, they help in reducing the load of the main chain and make transactions faster and cheaper. It is like diverting some traffic from busy stuck road onto empty faster smoother road which helps and improve overall network performance.

Different layer 2 solutions have their own strengths and weaknesses and the best choice depends on specific needs of a project or a user. Some of the most popular layer 2 solutions are Optimistic Rollups, zkRollups, and state channels. Each one of them have their own features and benefits and the developers choose the one that best suits their requirements.
My favorite is Optimistic Rollups because they are faster and cheaper way to handle the transactions on the blockchain. Let me give you an example here on how it works. Imagine you are playing a game where you keep track of your score on piece of paper.
Instead of writing down every simple point, you just write the final score when game ends. Thats how Optimistic Rollups works by bundle up all transactions into one and put them on main blockchain when they are done. This saves a lot of time and money because it reduces work on main blockchain. Arbitrum, Optimism, Base, Zora, and Mantle works on this solution.

Everything in this real world and in technology world have pros and cons. Same is with Layer 2 chains because they are not 100% perfect. Let me share with you pros and cons of Layer 2 chains.
Pros of Layer 2 Chains
1. Scalability: Layer 2 chains can help in increasing the capacity of blockchain networks by processing transactions off the main chain.
2. Faster Transactions: By handling transactions off-chain, Layer 2 chains improve transactions speed, making payments quick and other interactions easy and faster.
3. Lower Fees: With reduced load on the main blockchain, Layer 2 chains charge lower transaction fees making it more affordable for users.
Cons of Layer 2 Chains
1. Centralization Risks: Some layer 2 solutions may have centralization risks as they rely on trusted intermediate to facilitate off-chain transactions which compromise the decentralized nature of the blockchain network.
2. Security Concerns: While layer 2 solutions give benefit of scalability and efficiency, they may have new security concerns like risk of frauds and network attacks.
3. Complexity: Implementing and Managing Layer 2 chains can be complex because they require additional development efforts which may keep some developers and users away from it.
