Photography: The Charm of the Padang Tiji Mosque at Dusk
The Raudhaturrahman Padang Tiji Mosque was busy before Maghreb, Sunday 14 April 2024. At dusk, the sky painted an interesting, beautiful view. I photographed it from various angles.

That day, my family and I were on our way back to Banda Aceh from Bireuen. The two cities in Aceh Province, Indonesia are approximately 220 kilometers apart. When we arrived at the Padang Tiji Mosque, we stopped for a moment to rest and pray Maghreb.
I looked around, the light from the sunset added to the beauty of the mosque with its unique architecture.
The Raudhaturrahman Padang Tiji Mosque is famous throughout Aceh because of its dome like a coconut shell, similar to alien UFOs in fantasy films. The mosque is always busy with national road users on the Banda Aceh-Medan route, as a place to rest during prayer time or just to rest to relieve fatigue from driving.
This mosque is located in Gampong Pasar Padang Tiji, Padang Tiji District, Pidie Regency, Aceh, Indonesia. It is located 98 kilometers from Banda Aceh City.
The distinctive feature of the Raudhaturrahman Padang Tiji Mosque, built in 1980, is its dome. It has a tower as high as 37 meters, and can accommodate 2,000 worshipers. The mosque was designed by Ir Azwar Abubakar, former Governor of Aceh for the 2004-2007 period together with Ir Masri Sutan Bandaro, lecturer at the Faculty of Engineering, Syiah Kuala University. Funds for building the mosque came from donations from residents and government assistance.
The mosque is located on 1.5 hectares of land and has a large yard which functions as a parking area. Currently, several wooden huts have been built for residents who stop by to rest. The front fence is equipped with two doors, while on the back side it is bordered by residents' land.
The inside of the mosque gives a comfortable and cool impression. The congregation is willing to linger in the mosque and make worship more solemn. Without a pillar in the middle, the mosque looks spacious. The combination of green and white, on the walls and floor, makes the eyes calm. This is the concept of calm that is expected when worshiping.
The mosque regularly holds recitations for local residents. The mosque management also facilitates wedding activities for residents there. []
