Steemit Crypto Academy Contest / S11W5 -: Steem blockchain age
Hello Steemians! Warm welcome to my post. How are you all? I hope that you will be doing well. I'm also fine and enjoying my day. Today I'm here to participate in this Steemit Engagement Challenge Season 11 week 5 in the Steemit Crypto Academy. The topic of this challenge is "Steem Blockchain Age". So let's start the task.
In the Blockchain technology the Genesis Block means that the first block of that Blockchain which holds the foundations of that network and don't link to any previous blocks. In understanding that concept we can say that when we build a new house In this when we lay the first brick it is its foundation and then the whole house is built through that brick.
So in the Blockchain technology the Genesis Block is same like that brick. The Genesis Block contains the hardcore sets of the network data and initiate the transactions within that network. We can say that the Genesis Block is refers as the startup of any Blockchain network which then verifies the validity of newly generating or adding blocks within the chain of that Blocks.
The Genesis Block contains the special data of the Blockchain network and that thing makes it different from the other blocks. It can also be called 1 block or 0 block of that network. In results the Genesis Block plays a vital role in shaping the future of that Blockchain network as it holds the basic information, special codes and the foundations of posterior blocks.
As we all know that the Steemit is a decentralized social media platform which is based on Blockchain network and it was launched in 2016. So the the Genesis Block of Steem Blockchain was also launched in 24 March 2016. Since then this network is working very well and several blocks was added to it. Let's explore the Genesis Block of Steem Blockchain.
- Step 1: In the first step you just jave to open the Steem world website from your mobile phone or computer to explore the first block of Steem Blockchain. As you can see in the below screenshot.
- Step 2: In the second step you have to scroll down and reach at the end of that page. There you can an option of Block Explorer and click on that option. You can see in the screenshot below.
- Step 3: In the third step the block explorer page will appear on your screen and there you can put the number of that block whom want to get information. So I put there 1 as I want to explore the Genesis Block and then clicked on the Ok option you can see below.
- Step 4: In the fourth and final step you can see all the infringement and data of the Genesis Block of Steem Blockchain is on your screen. There you can check the timestamp, block I'd, witness details and each and everything about the Genesis Block.
From the above screenshot you can see the value of latest head Block is about #77587773. The time of adding per block is about 3 sec it means that the new block is adding per 3 seconds. And with the help of these values we can check the age of last block. Let's see some mathematical equations to get exact value.
Calculations
77587773 × 3 = 2327663319 Sec
2327663319 ÷ 60 Sec = 3879388.65 Mins
3879388.65 ÷ 60 Mins = 64656.4775 Hours
64656.4775 ÷ 24 hrs = 2694.0198 Days
2694.0198 ÷ 365 days = 7.38 Years
For that calculations I have get the dividend the lastest head Block value by 3 because three blocks are adding per second. Then I have divided the value which I get by 60 to convert them into minutes and then again by 60 and converted it into hours and the by 24 and get the value in days. In the last I have divided that value by 365 days and get the age of Steem Blockchain which is about 7.4 Years approx.
Well! When a Blockchain is not functioning properly such as malfunctioning are occuring, the network is not responding properly , some important tools are not available such as not working and users facing difficulties in working on that Blockchain so this kind a situation simply means that the down time of a Blockchain. Sometimes all these interruptions are temporary not permanently. There are several reasons behind the downtime of a Blockchain so let's discuss about them.
1. Network Congestion: When a large number of transactions occur at the same time which increase the traffic on the Blockchain then it becomes difficult for the Blockchain to maintain its stability so the congestion occur which lead towards the downtime.
2. Network Updates: Sometimes it happens that the people are working on any of specific Blockchain and on the other hand the system keep on upgrading then some tools disappears and the network lose its stability and the downtime occurs.
3. Cyber Attacks: When the hackers try to hack the Blockchain network and tries to take control over some parts of the network thus they disturb the functioning of the network which leads towards the downtime of a Blockchain.
4. Hardware Failure: As we all know that Blockchain networks are based on the decentralization technology which basically works with the help of nods so if any failure occur in the functioning of these nodes due to some reasons so it results in downtime.
5. Server Crashes: When the Main server of a Blockchain network crashes due to the power outage and lack of efficiency so it also cause the downtime.
Yes I think there is a possibility of experiencing downtime in every Blockchain network due to the above mentioned reasons. So the Steem Blockchain has also experienced downtime several times. According to my knowledge and research the Steem Blockchain has experienced a major downtime in the year 2020 due to the cyber attack.
They attacked the platform due to which the users get afraid because they were facing difficult in logging in their accounts and it caused a fear of losing all their assets within the Steem Blockchain. But after few days the Steem Blockchain gained his original position and all the issues were fixed by the Steem Blockchain team.
Actually I have faced some issues due to the downtime of Steem Blockchain in some previous months. I have faced difficulty in uploading the picture on Steemit. The image was uploaded but not visible there within the article. Then I discussed that issue with my fellow Steemians they told me that it is due to the updates and some other reasons in the Steem Blockchain.
More ever some months ago the comments was not loading properly on the posts of users the counting of comments was proper but some of them was not visible. That was also another technical issue in the Steem Blockchain which was considered as the downtime of Steem Blockchain.

Genesis block ek aisa blog hota hai jo ke blockchain ki creation ke start mein Hi create hota hai kyunki blockchain per har waqt naye se naye block create hote rahte hain aur agar Ham baat Karen Genesis block ki importance ki to Jis type ki information Genesis block mein hoti hai next block bhi usse related bhi create hota hai yahi vajah hai ki Genesis block ki bahut jyada ahmiyat hai.
Mujhe dekh Kar Khushi hui ki aapane subtraction method ko age ko find out karne ke liye use kiya hai aur aapko iske bare mein ek acchi understanding hai iske alava aapane down time ko bhi bahut acchi Tarah se explain kiya hai aur iske bare mein kuchh causes yani vaju hath bhi batai hai ki jinki vajah se hamare pass ek block Chain mein down time create ho sakta hai. Downtime... Something that we all have to get used to, even here on Steemit. It happens to all businesses. We had it in ours a couple of years ago, and I wanted the earth to swallow me.

La inactividad es un tiempo en el que la cadena de bloques no funciona correctamente y las razones son variadas.

It is incredible how the age of the first Steem block is calculated, it is also good to know that with tools or apps or dapps you can travel back in time and see how and how much activity was on the blockchain.
I remember having experienced inactivity twice and I was a little scared, but fortunately everything improved. The calculation that you have presented is very simple and understandable to understand.
