As The Rain Is Falling ..

Outside our home, I can hear it gently tapping against the windows and siding. The dogs, who were once aware, have now fallen into a sleep brought about by the rhythm of the rain. I myself am growing weary and tired after a long Wednesday filled with work related trials and tribulations. I gaze around the room and it is silent and still. The windows appear black while the corners of the room stand tall around them.

I Take A Walk To The Window ..
Noticing The eerie twinkle of light that appeared across the lake. It’s bouncing and dancing off the moving water like fire warming cold hands. For a moment I was lost in the splendor of such a thought.

The snorting and sneezing of a waking dog soon caught my attention, rattling me from my trance.

I walk over to pepper and watch him Continue to snort and lick his nose rapidly. I cannot shake him from this habit before he quickly falls back asleep. On the other hand, a little white dog lies in silence, snuggled into a pile of blankets and unaware of anything. I make my way over to her as her chest gently rises and falls assuring me there’s nothing to worry about. I smile slightly knowing she is content.

The night is getting deeper by the minute. I know the time is coming where I will have to disturb them from their slumber. I will call them to follow me to the door. They will have to brave the cold damp weather, shake off the rain, then have their paws patted dry. All the while they’ll be anticipating the moments before devouring a cookie.

Not yet. Not yet. First things first. I make my way back to the couch, sit in the dark watching Survivor season 40 and sifting through newly acquired vinyl albums.

The dogs, board and no longer interested in my movements, again shift positions. They nestle down once more as the rain continues to play soft music against the side of the house. Wet rhythmic tunes with every drop.

Not everything is art. Art is not everything, but it comes close. Art is everywhere and all the time. Art makes you experience the beauty of the world, the people in it, and the places we call home. Art itself is so influential that it can tell stories, show feelings, and express passion or fury. Art exists in addition to language; expression of sensations and thoughts, revealing a way of thinking too subtle and delicate for words.

For me art requires love, honesty and perseverance. In return, it reveals some personal, non-analyzable, and creative untamed passion. For the public, art with its magnificent beauty, improves mood and health and builds better human beings and communities. It engages the intellect, softens the heart, strengthens the soul and frees the spirit.
