Adventures in Fiji in the 1959 to 60'S - Part 2

in #history7 years ago (edited)

Once a month the Fijian Army and Police changed duty as Guard of the Governor’s House.

Not quite as popular as the one done in London, but the standard of the drill would be comparable.

The Army is in the red jackets, the Police in the dark blue.

This is the actual moment of ‘Changing of the guard’.

When the guard was changed and everybody had departed, tourists have requested photos of the guard in motion.

The reply was mumbled out the side of the mouth “I will be going twenty paces that way, pausing, about turning and returning here.”

I don’t think their bosses wanted them to perform for the crowds.

On the Queen’s Birthday, the army also fired a 21 gun salute.

It was always pleasant to have some personal guides to show us around as well.
