SOME TIME IN THE 1930s..... when the shackles of racism was yet to be broken. There lived a a great and famous African American boxer named Joe Louis.
.... but before him, there was another great boxer - Jack Johnson.
Now Johnson was extremely skilled at boxing.
... So skilled that he beat practically all his white opponents with ease.
He was famous too.
But Johnson had ONE Very BIG PROBLEM. He was an emotional fighter!😟
Whenever he was boxing in the midst of a hostile crowd that chanted:
"KILL THE NIGGA! KILL THAT NIGGA!
... it made him very angry... and he did stupid things in the process.
Throughout his boxing career, he found himself in a lot of trouble. The people knew about his temper, and when a hostile crowd wanted to get Johnson angry (very well enough to do stupid things), all they had to do was chant: KILL THE NIGGA!
Johnson eventually burned out from the all the hatred that he had inside his heart.
Our friend, Louis however, was equally talented,... but he was different.
Louis would show no emotion in the ring.
He understood the consequences of doing so. He knew that this would arouse the white audience and boost their conception of black boxers are out of control.
yet... a boxer, or fighter is conditioned to channel his emotions into overcoming his opponent.
So instead of giving up, or getting angry (like JACK JOHNSON), whenever he knocked out an opponent, Louis would gently return to his corner.
The opponents and the audience would try to bait him (as they did to Johnson) with their chants:
"KILL THE NIGGA! KILL THAT NIGGA!!!
... but it never got to him.
He used all the anger and channeled them into crafting this frightening mask of his.
When you entered the ring with Louis, his facial expression alone was sufficient enough to make your legs start getting weak.
The racists in the audience could not take advantage of this.
He was eventually nicknamed: THE EMBALMER.
... *and he went on to be the greatest black boxer that ever lived in his time. *
LESSONS FROM THIS STORY:
- Be Slow to Anger. Control Thy Temper. Control it, or it will control you.
- Control your emotions
whoever controls your emotions, controls your actions.!
- Know your enemies. Know how they think.
- Learn from other people's failures. Sometimes it is very vital for your own success.
- And Like i mentioned some days ago, Learn how to Transform negative situations into positives!
If, for instance, bad publicity comes your way, think of it as a form of negative attention that you can reframe for your own purpose.
Louis learned how to transform the Negative energy from the crowd into something positive, which he used to win his fights without getting into trouble
... you can do the same too!
