AT ONE TIME IN HISTORY, the ancient greek philosopher Socrates received a message that the oracle at Dedlphi had declared him the wisest man in the whole wide world

This pronouncement came as a shock to the philosopher because he did not think that he was worthy.

It made him uncomfortable... very uncomfortable. So he decided to go round Athens and seek out someone who was wiser than he.

Doing this was going to disprove the oracle at Delphi - or so he thought.

Socrates discussed with several people - poets, politicians, craftsmen, artists and fellow philosophers.

After months and months of meeting and conversing with a lot of these people, socrates came to realize one thing....
... one thing that you will understand in less than one minute.

You see, as a child you were at a position of basic ignorance. You had a hunger for knowledge. And to overcome this ignorance, you observed the world as closely as you possible could,
... and you absorbed a lot of information.
Everything was wonderful to you. And you wanted to know about it all
But with time, (for most humans) our minds closed off. We suddenly felt that we knew all that we needed to know about the world.
We hated change. And moreso when Our assumptions about life was challenged.

"THE ORACLE WAS RIGHT!"
Socrates realized.
All the people that he talked to had so much certainty about things. They ventured solid opinions about matters of which they had no experience and little knowledge about.
If you questioned them, they could not really defend their opinions, which seemed merely based on something they had decided years earlier.
For a majority of them, their knowledge about the world had merely being passed to them by their parents and teachers.

Socrates realized that his superiority, according to the oracle, was that HE KNEW NOTHING!
... and HE KNEW THAT HE KNEW NOTHING!
... this left his mind open to experiencing things as they are, the source of all knowledge.

SO HERE'S THE LESSON...

Be curious

  • Ask questions
  • Let go of your preconceptions
  • Observe closely
  • Experiment
  • Listen to people's ideas
  • Read. Read. Read
  • See everything as a source of education
  • Be curious.... okay i've said that!

When you live this way, you will notice that more knowledge and opportunities will come your way!
