Goldy Roman Empire + Mene

in history •  4 months ago

These Roman gold coins were discovered in the basement of an old theatre inside of a stone urn near the ancient city of Novum Comum in Italy.

One look at this beautiful treasure and it is intuitively obvious why gold matters.

Can you think of ANYthing else thank looks like this from the 5th century?

You don’t have to be a gold expert to understand gold. All you need to do is look at the photo. Can you image what a fist full of fiat would look like after so many years?

A main component of why gold is so good at maintaining its value over time is because it also maintains itself. Gold is essentially immortal to time which can’t be said of almost anything else.

I imagine that thousands of years from now someone might find some of my Mene and its going to look just the same as it does now:

For a deep dive into the science of gold I highly recommend this piece on the science of gold by Mene and Goldmoney founder @roysebag :

And this fun article about the price of a Big Mac index, gold, and the movie Back to the future by the other Goldmoney founder Josh Crumb:

Both of the articles explain why and how the gold that we see from the Roman Empire not only looks so good, but also protects our purchasing power over long periods of time.

How can you accomplish this without storing your gold in an old vase hidden from the world for thousands of years?

You can do it with Mene investment jewelery.

Mene is 24 karat gold and platinum in the form of wearable wealth:

This is a disruptive business to the jewerly industry which is already shattering the current paradigm. Mene has already proven that by selling 24 karat jewelry by gram weight with a transparent 20% or less design fee, no one goes back to buying jewelery the old way.

This is going to be a thing. Just watch:

It give me great satisfaction that one day someone might find my Mene. They will know that some guy in 2018 thought it was smart to buy something that will last forever, and that he cared enough about his loved ones to act upon his thoughts.

Ohhhhh...what a hoard @goldmatters! Incredible amount of gold to have in Roman days! Makes you wonder if it was stolen and hidden away? or embezzled one coin at a time maybe. Amazing.

Ok can you even imagine how freaking exciting that would be to discover old roman gold coins?!?!?! It seems unreal. I almost feel like writing a fictional story around it.

They seriously still look perfect!

I don't think fiat lovers understand this simple fact - Gold is the only thing that will stand the test of time

Yes for sure

yeah! If anyone can make them understand it's @goldmatters

Hi goldmatters it kind of makes you want to get out your shovel and go digging. The value of Gold has been the hall mark of wealth and it will never change.

Yes exactly

Lol..dig for gold? preposterous 😉

unfortunately they are making fiat out of plastic notes, but they sure as hell do not
look like gold

Thats for sure

oh my gosh! I love old roman coins, I even own a few of them, but mine aren't gold. How awesome would it have been to find these? or maybe an old shipwreck with gold coins. My parents found an old Spanish gold coin from I believe the 1700s or 1600s. They found it in a storage locker. lol They should have been on the TV show Storage Wars. haha

Thats amazing! I bet they look awesome

Yeah I am hoping they will give it to me...hehe

I can't imagine the thrill of opening an old roman pot and finding a pile of gold coins. Oh boy.

I’m pretty sure I would feint with zero shame
